• India’s geographical diversity has blessed it with an unparalleled wealth of medicinal plants, which form the bedrock of various traditional systems of Medicine. The following five plants, in particular, showcase the varied therapeutic potential and the targeted use of specific plant parts in healing practices:
  • Asparagus racemosus Willd. (Shatavari): The plant is a perennial, prickly climber and a highly branched undershrub found throughout the tropical and subtropical regions of India. It is used as an adaptogen to help the body manage stress, supporting reproductive health, digestion, immunity, and overall vitality.
  • Centella asiatica L. (Mandukparni): A perennial prostrate herb with creeping stems that root at the nodes, it has simple, reniform leaves with long petioles. The inflorescence is a loose, sub-capitate umbel. The dried whole plant is used for fever, itching, cough and anemia.
  • Piper longum L. (Pippali): A slender, aromatic, creeping perennial herb, the plant is used in dyspepsia, abdominal pain and diuretic splenopathy, anorexia, asthma and fever.
  • Tinospora cordifolia (Willd.) Miers ex Hook.f. & Thoms. (Guduchi): A large, extensively spreading perennial woody climber with succulent stems, its stem is used for treating fever, cough, gout, worm infestation, anemia and skin diseases.
  • Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal (Ashwagandha): A perennial herb and erect, branched undershrub growing up to 1.25 m in height. It is useful as a rejuvenator and promotes intellect, stability and strength.
• India is not only home to diverse medicinal plants but also a global centre of botanical knowledge, with traditional systems documenting nearly 8,000 plant-based remedies. A large share of the population, especially in rural areas, still depends on these accessible and time-tested natural medicines. Growing global preference for safe, holistic, plant-based products has further increased demand, making India one of the world’s leading exporters of medicinal plants and a key supplier to the herbal, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industries.

• Sri Sathya Sai Baba was born on November 23, 1926, in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh. At the age of 14, he began his mission to promote human values of truth, righteous conduct, peace, love, and non-violence, while stressing the unity of all religions. His life of service and compassion inspired the establishment of numerous institutions devoted to education, healthcare, and rural development, benefiting millions, around the world.
• The Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust (SSSCT) continues his vision by offering free healthcare, education, and social welfare services without discrimination. Recognised by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) with a Special Consultative Status, the Trust operates two super-speciality hospitals, two general hospitals, and two mobile hospitals that treat around 3,000 outpatients daily, completely free of charge. These hospitals are highlighted by NITI Aayog as exemplary not-for-profit, faith-based healthcare models devoted to “service to society as service to God”.
• In education, the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning provides free undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes, combining academic excellence with character building. More than 5,000 students study in all these institutions and receive quality education free of cost. • Bhagalpuri Zardalu :
  • Bhagalpuri Zardalu Mango is a prized variety known for its creamy yellow pulp, delightful aroma and sweet flavor. Cultivated in Bhagalpur and surrounding districts, it received a GI tag No- 551 for its unique qualities. The mango trees have a rounded canopy, and the fruits are medium-sized (186-265g) with smooth, thin peels. Its sweetness (TSS 22.08-22.67° Brix) and low fiber content make it highly sought after. The region’s alluvial soil and sub-humid climate create the perfect conditions for its cultivation. Zardalu Mango is recognized for its long shelf life, moderate resistance to pests, and heavy yield. Its unique appearance and exceptional taste have made it a prominent export product.
• Katarni Rice :
  • Katarni Rice, famous for its aroma and taste, is grown in Bhagalpur, Banka and Munger districts. Its slender grains and aromatic flavor make it ideal for preparing beaten rice (Chura) during festivals. Katarni is tall (140-160 cm) and photoperiod-sensitive, flowering in October and maturing by December. With a 25-30 t/ha yield, it requires specific conditions, including fertile soils and traditional irrigation methods. The GI tag granted in 2018 (No. 553) has helped protect its identity and promote purity. Efforts by Bihar Agricultural University have improved its yield and reduced its susceptibility to lodging. Katarni rice is deeply embedded in Bihar’s culinary and cultural heritage.
• Magahi Paan :
  • Magahi Paan, a premium betelvine, is cultivated in Nawada, Nalanda, Gaya and Aurangabad districts of Bihar. Renowned for its softness, pungency and non-fibrous texture, it has earned a GI tag (No. 554). The leaves are rich in flavonoids and phenolic compounds, contributing to high medicinal value. Magahi Paan’s essential oils, such as chavicol and eugenol, possess antiseptic and stimulant properties. With its shiny, dark-green leaves and high yield of 50-60 lakh leaves per hectare annually, this variety is distinct for its prolonged shelf life of 15-20 days. Traditionally, it is used for mouth freshening and medicinal purposes, making it an integral part of local culture.
• Mithila Makhana :
  • Mithila Makhana, derived from Euryale ferox, is a ceremonial and nutritional delicacy of Bihar. it received a GI tag No- 696, cultivated mainly in Mithilanchal, this aquatic crop is revered for its religious and cultural significance. Known as ‘Black Diamond’ when raw and ‘White Ball’ when popped, it is rich in proteins, carbohydrates, and essential minerals. Makhana has medicinal properties beneficial for respiratory, circulatory, and digestive health. Bihar accounts for 80-85% of India’s production, with Darbhanga, Madhubani, and Purnea being major hubs. It grows in ponds, wetlands, and chaurs, requiring specific climatic and soil conditions. With a yield of 2.5-3.0 t/ha, Makhana provides livelihood to thousands of farmers. The GI tag ensures its authenticity and promotes its cultural legacy.
• Shahi Litchi of Bihar :
  • Shahi Litchi, a premium variety, is grown in Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Vaishali, and surrounding regions of Bihar. it received a GI tag No- 552, for its crimson-red skin, high pulp-to-seed ratio, and juicy texture, it is a favorite summer fruit. The plant is semi-vigorous, reaching heights of 6-10 meters with dense foliage. Fruits mature early, from May to June, and are rich in vitamins C and minerals. With 58-67% pulp content and a sugar-acid blend, it is widely appreciated for its flavor. The GI tag for Shahi Litchi highlights its unique attributes, including high yield (80-135 kg/tree). Its distinctiveness lies in its attractive color, aroma, and mouth-watering taste.

• The Maha Kumbh, a sacred congregation that unfolds every twelve years, is more than a spectacular gathering of millions – it is a spiritual odyssey that delves into the very essence of human existence.
• At the heart of the Maha Kumbh Mela lies a symbol steeped in cosmic significance – the “Kumbh” or sacred pot. This vessel, laden with symbolism, transcends its physical form to embody the human body and the quest for spiritual awakening. According to Hindu mythology, the Kumbh symbolizes the celestial pot that emerged during the churning of the cosmic ocean, containing the divine nectar known as “amrit”. Metaphorically, the Maha Kumbh represents the human form, and the nectar within symbolizes the spiritual essence intrinsic to every individual. The stamps are inspired from the famous verse :
  
  
• STAMP 1: Maharshi Bharadwaj Ashram
  • Associated with Maharshi Bharadwaj Ashram, this place has been a revered religious site for centuries. During Maharshi Bharadwaj’s time, it was renowned as an educational centre. According to Ramayana and Purans, Shri Ram visited this place with Mata Sita and Lakshman while on his way to Chitrakoot during his Vanvas period. The famous Ramcharitmanas written by Tulasidas also begins from the Bharadwaj’s Ashram in the Balkand.
  • Maharshi Bharadwaj was the author of numerous texts on subjects such as Grammar (Vyakaran), Ayurveda, Dhanurveda (Archery), Political Science (Rajneeti Shastra), Mechanics (Yantrasarvasva), Economics (Arthshastra), Purans, and Education, among others. However, today, only Yantrasarvasva and Shiksha (Education) are available. According to the Vayupuran, he wrote a book called Ayurveda Samhita, which was divided into eight parts and taught to his disciples. According to the Charak Samhita, he imparted the knowledge of Kayachikitsa (general medicine) to Atreya Punarvasu.
  • Maharshi Bharadwaj received knowledge of Ayurveda and Savitr Agni Vidya (knowledge of the fire of Savitr) from Indra, and later, in a different era, from Lord Brahma. By absorbing the power of fire, the Maharshi attained the essence of immortality and ascended to the heavenly realms, where he gained union with Aditya (the Sun). (Taittiriya Brahman 3/10/11)
  • Perhaps for this reason, Maharshi Bharadwaj was one of the longest-living sages. Maharshi Charak described him as one with an immeasurable lifespan. (Sutra Sthan 1/26).
  • Today, the site is home to several temples, including the Bharadwajeshwar Mahadev, Maharshi Bharadwaj, Tirthraj Prayag and Devi Kali among others. Nearby, the beautiful Bharadwaj Park offers a serene atmosphere for visitors to relax and unwind.
• STAMP 2: Snan
  • Prayagraj, the Tirthraj or ‘King of Pilgrimages’, is sanctified by the Triveni Sangam – the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the invisible Saraswati. According to ancient scriptures, bathing when Guru (Jupiter) enters Vrish Rashi purifies the soul and attains Moksha (Salvation) – known for hosting the Kumbh, and the Magh Mela annually. Prayagraj Kumbh is a mega event that features various rituals, with the Snan bathing ritual known as Tirth Snan being the most significant. The Ganga is considered the river of knowledge, the Yamuna is regarded as the symbol of devotion, Saraswati is the bestower of liberation (moksha), and Lakshmi grants wealth. Therefore, one who bathes at the Triveni Sangam of the three rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the invisible Saraswati – attains knowledge, devotion, wealth and liberation (Moksha).
  • Millions of pilgrims take part in the Kumbh Tirth Snan at the Triveni Sangam, performing this sacred ritual per the belief that by submerging oneself in the Sangam Jal, one is purified of all sins, releases oneself and their ancestors from the cycle of rebirth called Moksha, and they also ultimately attain their Moksha. Along with the Tirth Snan, pilgrims also camp on the banks of the holy river called Kalpvas and participate in discourses from various Sadhus, Tapasvis, and spiritual Mentors seeking spiritual enlightenment and guidance. The Kumbh Mela is a unique opportunity for devotees to connect with Sanatan discourses of harmony, and their spiritual heritage and seek Moksha.
• STAMP 3: Akshayvat
  • The Akshayvat, also known as the immortal Banyan tree, is a sacred tree deeply rooted in Sanatan scriptures. This holds significant importance as it is believed to be the tree under which Shri Ram, Mata Sita and Lakshman, rested during their Vanvas. According to the Scriptures, the tree is immortal and has been a silent witness to the passage of time, making it a revered and sacred site for devotees and pilgrims. According to the Padma Puran, even during the period of cosmic dissolution (Pralay), the Akshayvat remains steadfast. For this reason, it is called Akshayvat (eternal).
    
    
  • During the time of Pralay (cosmic dissolution), Lord Vishnu rests on its leaves, which is why it is called Akshay (eternal). Not only Maharshis did meditate under this tree, but even the gods and goddesses performed penance here. For this reason, this tree is considered the abode of all the deities. According to the Padma Puran, wherever the shadow of the Akshayvat falls, it generates divinity in humans and removes their sins and sufferings. Akshayvat is regarded as a witness to all actions (Karmas).

International Day of Yoga event is well attended and celebrated with great enthusiasm by Israelis. Israelis particularly the youth visit India in large numbers for tourism purposes. • Philosophy and morality are closely intertwined in Indian life. Dharma is the Indian word meaning morals and ethics. The word “dharma” derives from the root “dhr,” which means to hold. The city of Ayodhya, situated on the bank of pious river Saryu is considered a form of Rama. Ayodhya is filled with many childhood life acts of Rama which ultimately played an important role in his transformation as Maryadapurshottam. Shri Ram Janmbhoomi temple at Ayodhya symbolizes the united faith of every Indian in the life of Shri Ram. The sculptures in the temple complex, spiritual symbols on walls and the overall architectural style describes the divinity of Rama. This temple is the center of renaissance of the spiritual energy of great Bharat.
• The construction of the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Temple, situated on the sacred birthplace of Shri Ram within a 70-acre complex, is a significant endeavour undertaken by the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, formed by the Supreme Court on November 9, 2019.
• The main temple is designed in ancient Nagara style of Architecture. The temple is constructed with Pink Bansi Paharpur stones from the mines in Bharatpur district, Rajasthan & spans a vast area of 2.77 acres.
• The construction involves intricate processes, including cutting and carving of stones at Pindwara in Rajasthan, utilizing advanced CNC technology for precision. The final finishing, a testament to craftsmanship, is meticulously done by a team of approximately 1,500 artisans. The stones, after carving, are carefully packed and transported back to the temple for the assembly and erection.
• Impressively standing at a height of 161.75 feet, with a length of 380 feet and a width of 249.5 feet, the three-story temple comprises five mandaps — Nritya Mandap, Rang Mandap, Gudh Mandap, Kirtan Mandap, and Prarthana Mandan — along with the Main Shikar. It is a marvel of architecture, constructed using 26,500 Pink Bansi Paharpur stones, designed to endure for over a thousand years without incorporating steel. Each stone have been carefully inspected by National Institute of Rock Mechanics (NIRM) for its physical properties.
• The temple’s structural integrity is reinforced to withstand seismic activities of Zone 4. The ground floor boasts 166 pillars, the first floor 142, and the second floor 82, including 6 Makrana Marble pillars on each floor, adorned with intricate carvings of over 10,000 Moortis and themes.
• Teak wood sourced from the Maharashtra Forest Department, seasoned in Nagpur, is used for the temple’s 46 wooden doors, with 14 doors on the ground floor embellished with gold plating. The opulent flooring, covering an area of 80,000 square feet, is done with 35mm thick white Makrana Marble, featuring an inlay of 15mm thick coloured marble stones.
• A special highlight of the temple is the mechanism devised by the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee, where during the auspicious day of Ram Navami, Surya Kiran will fall on the forehead (Surya Tilak) of Shri Ram.
• Pranpratishtha at Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Temple is a historic day for the nation. To make this moment truly unique, Department of Posts has conceptualized a set of six stamps on Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Temple. These stamps have been printed with the water and sand from Ram Janmbhoomi, carrying the consciousness and blessings of Shri Ram. The stamps have the fragrance of sandal wood signifying the fragrance of divinity. To make these stamps radiant of the divine light, parts of the Miniature sheet is gold foiled.

About : 

• Construction of “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel” in Chattogram under the river Karnaphuli is an initiative of the present government led by Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to fulfil the dream “Golden Bengal” of the greatest Bengali of all time, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which is the first under river road Tunnel in Bangladesh as well as in the South Asia. In the year 2010 Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared in a public meeting in Chattogram to construct a tunnel under the river Karnaphuli. Then the Project was initiated in 2011 by a feasibility study. Later on, during the visit of Hon’ble Prime Minister in China on 09 June, 2014 a Government to Government based Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with Chinese Government for constructing the tunnel. Accordingly, China Government nominated “China Communications Construction Company Ltd. (CCCC Ltd)” for Constructing the tunnel. Thereafter, on 30 June, 2015 the Loan Agreement was signed between Bangladesh Bridge Authority and China Communications Construction Company Ltd. (CCCC Ltd.). Afterward, on 14 October, 2016 the Loan Agreement was signed between Exim Bank of China & Economic Relation Division and in the Same day His Excellency Hon’ble President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping and Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the foundation stone of tunnel construction.
• Objectives of the Project: –
  • In order to make connectivity of the coveted “One City and Two Town” model, development of road communication with the south-east part of the country, connectivity with the Asian Highway Network, connection with Chattogram Port & Airport, reduction of existing traffic congestion bypassing Chattogram city, development of existing & developing industrial zone as well as for flourishing tourism industry at the Anowara end and for smooth functioning of port, initiatives were taken to construct a tunnel under the river Karnaphuli.
• Rationale of the Project: –
  • To enable the entry and berthing of large vessels with higher requirement of draft and length, construction of a Deep-Sea Port in Matarbari, Chattogram is under planning. It is expected that the cargo traffic through Chattogram will increase significantly after opening the operation of the Deep-Sea Port. Moreover, to avoid the sedimentation problem under the river Karnaphuli it is essential to construct a tunnel instead of a bridge. Thus, Construction of Tunnel appears to be a prerequisite in fulfilling the above important objectives.
• Tunnel Alignment: –
  • West Side: 2 Km downstream of the River Karnaphuli from the Airport & near Navy College.
  • East Side: At the Anowara end near KAFCO Fertilizer Factory.
  • Tunnel Type: Dual Two-Lane Tube.
• Construction Method: –
  • The tunneling works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel had been done by “Shield Driven Method”. In this method Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) had been used for excavation of Soil and Slurry Transportation System was used to remove the soil from the tunnel to Slurry Treatment Plant.
• Brief Description of Tunnel Tube: –
  • The total length of the tunnel is 3315 meters with Open-Cut, Cut & Cover, Working shaft on both sides and two Tubes of 2450 meter length. The maximum depth of the tunnel from mean sea level is 42.60 meter. The inner and outer diameters of the tunnel are 10.80 and 11.80 meter respectively. The inside vertical clearance is 4.90 meter and maximum slope is 4 percent.
  • The main round tube is divided into upper and lower parts. In the upper part vehicle will run over the concrete slab and on the surface there are systems for lighting, air circulation and security signals. The lower parts have an emergency exit with drainage system. In addition, there are three cross passage between the two tubes after every 700 meter for emergency rescue purpose. The inner height of every cross passage is 2.7 meter. The maximum speed limit of vehicle inside the tunnel is 80 km per hour.
• Due to strong political leadership and deft economic management of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina helped Bangladesh to meet all criteria for graduation out of Least Developed Country (LDC) status. Bangladesh achieved the status of Middle-Income Country crossing the lower Middle-Income threshold in 2015 and achieved a decade of 7 percent average GDP growth. After the opening of “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel” the Financial & Economic IRR will be respectively 6.19% & 12.49% and the Financial & Economic “Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR)” will be respectively 1.05 & 1.50. Moreover, it will accelerate the GDP growth rate of near about 0.166%. Due to the construction of “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel” the dream of “Golden Bengal” of Bangabandhu will move one step ahead and the macro economy of Bangladesh will be accelerated.

• Geographical indications (GIs) are intellectual property (IP) rights that serve to identify a product that originates from a specific geographical area and that has a quality, reputation, or other characteristics that are essentially attributable to its geographical origin. There are many laws and treaties enacted by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and World Trade Organisation (WTO) for the protection of Geographical Indications.
• The Geographical Indications Registry in India examines applications for GI in India and when an application for a GI is accepted, the same is notified in the GI Journal and if no opposition is received, the Geographical Indications is registered.
• Government of India enacted Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999. This act came into force in September, 2003. Geographical Indications are part of our collective and intellectual heritage that needs to be protected and promoted. These individual treasures, rooted in Indian traditions, deserve to be shared with people across the globe.
• The Kashmir Saffron is cultivated and harvested in the Karewas (high lands) of Jammu and Kashmir by local farmers. It is the only Saffron grown at an altitude of 1600m to 1800m (above the mean Sea Level) in the world, which adds to its uniqueness and differentiates it from other Saffron varieties available in the world market. The Kashmir Saffron also has the distinction of being totally chemical free, organic and safest choice of consumers.
• The Wild Apricot commonly known as Chulli grows abundantly in the wild, in the districts of Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Chamba, Sirmour, Kinnaur and Lahaul–Spiti of Himachal Pradesh. Himachali Chulli Oil is locally extracted for domestic use in almost all local households and is considered to be a good source of polyunsaturated fatty acids with nutritional and pharmaceutical value.
• The Ganjam Kewda Flower grows on a small tree or shrub which is both cultivated and grows wild, in coastal areas of Odisha. About 80-85% of Kewda canopy is concentrated within 10 km radius from the sea coast. The male flower “spikes” are used for producing perfume, aromatic oil (known as kewda oil) and fragrant distillation (otto) called “kewda-ka-arak”.
• The Kaji Nemu (Assam Lemon) is considered to have originated as a chance seedling raised in the citrus station Bumihut from the progeny of variety collected under the name China-kaghi from the village Hashara, in the district of Sivasagar. Kaji Nemu is relatively larger than the regular lemon. The sour citrus fruit is widely used in beverages, industries and medicines. Even after ripening it doesn’t fall from the tree for a very long period.
• The three major varieties of Mahabaleshwar Strawberry are Chandler, Sweet Charlie and Camarossa. Mahabaleshwar contributes about 90% of the total production of Strawberries in India. The climatic and soil conditions of Mahabaleshwar lead to a unique blend of strawberry having a distinct aroma and colour. It contains up to 80% water which makes it juicier than other strawberries. It is also sweeter than strawberries grown elsewhere due to higher percentage of glucose.
• The Allahabad Surkha Guava is distinguished by its large size, thin skin, thick flesh that is occasionally of deep pink colour, sweet taste, pleasant aroma and presence of numerous seeds. The specific area known for Allahabad Surkha Guava is situated between rivers Yamuna and Ganga. It has distinct agro-climatic conditions considered responsible for the special characteristics of Allahabad Surkha Guava.
• The Shahi Litchi of Bihar is one of the best varieties of litchi mainly grown in Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Vaishali, Sitamarhi, East Champaran, Siwan, Darbhanga, Sheohar, Begusarai and adjoining areas of Bihar. It is an early maturing variety that starts maturing in the 2^nd week of May and continues till the 1^st week of June. Fruits are of large size, round in shape and crimson red in colour. Its juicy aril (the edible portion) is of cream colour.
• The Naga Tree Tomato is a fruit that grows on trees and has a close resemblance of tomato. However, it is not a true tomato. It is grown widely throughout the state of Nagaland and has been a traditional food item of the Naga people since time immemorial. It is known locally as “Si Binyano” and “Khwtidi”. Naga Tree Tomato fruits are smooth, egg-shaped with a thin skin and a soft flesh during ripening and usually weigh about 100-150 gm. The fruit is rich in vitamins A and C as well as an excellent source of calcium, iron, potassium, phosphorus and magnesium.
• The Gir Kesar Mango is a well-known variety of mango grown particularly in the Junagadh region of Gujarat. The term ‘Kesar’ (saffron) is used to describe this variety due to the saffron colour of the fruit pulp which has almost no fiber. The fruit is oblong in shape, weighs about 250-300 gm and tastes sweet. The tree is hardy, single stemmed and slow growing which takes about 3-4 years to bear fruit. It is a regular bearer and bears fruits every year.
• The Bangalore Blue Grapes are grown primarily in the Bangalore Rural district in Hoskote, Dodballarpur, Neelamangala and Devanahalli. Berries are small sized, dark purple, ovoid and seeded with thick skin. The juice of berries is purple coloured, clear and has a pleasant flavour.
• The Vazhakulam Pineapple is grown in Ernakulam, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts of Kerala. It is locally known as ‘Kannara’. The plant is about 85-90 cm in height with spiny leaves and yields fruits in about 12 months. The average fruit weighs around 1200 g. The fruit has a pleasant aroma, slightly conical shape, crisp, sweet and golden yellow flesh.
• The Eathomozhy Tall Coconut is a natural selection of traditional variety of west coast tall coconuts that adapts well to the soil and climatic conditions of Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, India. Eathomozhy Tall Coconut is known for its sturdy stem, large crown, fairly big sized nuts, with good fibre in the thick shell, kernel and high copra and oil contents. The nuts are round or oblong and dark or light green in colour. They mature in 11-12 months.
