• The heritage of India is filled with stories of saints who sacrificed their lives for the benefit of people. These saints gave a new direction and hope to the people through their philosophy and action. One such saint from western India is Veer Meghmaya.
• Saint Veer Meghmaya lived around 1000 years ago. At that time, the historical capital of Gujarat was Anhilpur Patan. There was the rule of king Siddhraj Jai Singh Solanki.
• At that time, people were longing for water due to famine for many years. The then king, who was a devotee of lord Shiva, got the “Sahastralinga Sarovar” constructed. To pay tribute to the power of lord Shiva, 1008 Shiva temples were also built around the lake with the Shivling.
• Despite the constriction of the lake, water remained a challenge for the people. On asking the pundits/astrologers, it was told that the water did not come due to the curse of the king. It was told that the remedy would be, if a man with thirty-two qualities, sacrifices himself in the lake. Such a man with thirty two signs was “Veer Meghmaya” who was born in a Dalit Vankar family, near Dholka, in Ranoda village.
• Saint Veer Meghmaya voluntarily accepted the sacrifice for the welfare of the people. At that time untouchability was at its peak. He appealed to the king for social justice, for the depressed classes of the area, which was accepted. With this single act of sacrifice, the life of millions of untouchables got transformed. The sacrifices of Veer Meghmaya is always remembered as the great cause of establishing human rights and redemption of the depressed classes.
• In modern times, Veer Meghmaya is seen as a liberator of depressed and vulnerable. The government of Gujarat is developing his birth place as millions gather here to pay homage to Veer Meghmaya. With the development of memorial, research centre, library, primary health centre and renovation of temple, the devotees will be greatly benefitted.

• The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, is a globally renowned institution in the fields of mental health and neurosciences. NIMHANS traces its origins to the Bangalore Lunatic Asylum, established in 1847. Over time, the asylum evolved and was renamed the Mysore State Mental Hospital in 1925, reflecting a shift in the management of mental illnesses in India. • 2900 years ago, in the historic city of Varanasi in Bharatvarsha, King Ashvasena ruled with compassion and justice. His queen, Vamadevi, carried within her a magnificent soul, heralded by 14/16 divine dreams. During her pregnancy, Queen Vamadevi had the vision of a snake by her side in the dead of the night. Acting swiftly, she informed the King, ultimately saving his life from imminent danger. When the time came, she gave birth to a son at midnight on the 10^th/11^th day of the dark fortnight of Pausha, under the Vishakha constellation. The boy was named Parshva Kumar. In celebration of his birth, King Ashvasena organized a grand ten day festival, distributing abundant donations of food, clothing, and wealth to the people.
• From an early age, Parshva Kumar demonstrated fearlessness, intellectual brilliance, and a natural inclination towards religious life. His education was marked by diligence, enabling him to excel in knowledge as well as skills such as weaponry and horsemanship, all achieved through his sharp intellect. As Parshva Kumar reached adulthood, King Ashvasena arranged his marriage with Princess Prabhavati, daughter of King Prasenajit. However, the Digambar tradition holds that Parshva Kumar remained unmarried. Despite living a royal life, Parshva Kumar remained detached and absorbed in spiritual contemplation.
• Recognizing the appropriate time for renunciation, Parshva Kumar began distributing his worldly possessions. On the eleventh day of the dark fortnight of Pausha, he reached the Ashram Udyana in central Varanasi. There, beneath an Ashoka tree, he performed the ritual of plucking out his hair in five handfuls, removed his ornaments, and initiated himself into asceticism. As a monk, Muni Parshva devoted himself to meditation and spiritual practice. Traveling widely, he preached the principles of dharma, truth, and ahimsa (non-violence) to the masses. On one of his journeys, he returned to the Ashram Udyana in Varanasi, where he entered in deep meditation beneath a Ghataki tree. After an eight-day fast, he overcame all destructive karmas, attaining omniscience (Kevala Jnana) and omni perception. Following his enlightenment, Bhagwan Parshvanath delivered discourses for the spiritual upliftment of all living beings. His powerful and lucid teachings drew many followers, including King Ashvasena, Queen Vamadevi, Queen Prabhavati, and numerous scholars who were inspired to take Jain initiation.

• In the historical city of Varanasi, 2900 years ago, King Ashvasen and Queen Vamadevi were blessed with a son in the midnight of Paush Krishna 10/11. The boy child was named Parshva Kumar. In due course, his education started and with sharp intelligence, he was praised by his teachers. He also excelled in horsemanship and weaponry. Gifted with three types of Gyan (Knowledge) — Mati (sensory knowledge), Shruti (scriptural knowledge), and Avadhi (clairvoyance) since birth, he realized the transitory nature of worldly comforts. Therefore, he decided to embrace asceticism.
• On Pausha Krishna Ekadasi, Parshva Kumar, standing under a Ashoka tree in Varanasi, plucked out five fistfuls of his hair, and initiated himself into monkhood. Immediately upon his initiation, he attained the fourth knowledge— Manahparyaya Gyan (a kind of telepathy).
• On the eighty-fourth day of his spiritual journey and completing an eight-day fast, he achieved Omniscience (Keval Gyan) and Omniperception (Keval Darshan) at Varanasi on Chaitra Krishna 4.
• After attaining omniscience, Bhagwan Parshvanath visited many places and delivered profound religious discourses. His teachings of non violence, truth and self restraint inspired numerous followers for their spiritual upliftment. He explained the essence of dharma and strongly opposed rituals like animal sacrifice and the ostentation prevalent in religious practices at that time and reviving the true essence of Dharma.
• As his liberation (moksha) drew near, Parshvanath, along with thirty-three monks, traveled to Mount Sammet Shikhar. There, he undertook a fast until death. After fasting for one month and having completed 100 years of life, he attained liberation on the eighth day of the bright fortnight of Shravana, under the Vishakha constellation. Bhagwan Parshvanath’s teachings left an indelible mark on Jain tradition. Jain devotees consider their lives fulfilled by remembering and venerating Bhagwan Parshvanath daily.
• Jainacharya Shri Jinapiyushsagar Suriswarji M.S. regards Bhagwan Parshvanath as an exceptionally influential Tirthankara. Parshvanath’s Nirvan, occurred 250 years before Bhagwan Mahaveer’s Nirvan, which took place on Diwali. As we are now in the 2550^th year of Mahaveer’s Nirvan, it follows that this year marks the 2800^th year of Bhagwan Parshvanath’s Nirvan.
• To honor this significant event, various activities and commemorative events will take place across the country, celebrating the teachings and legacy of Bhagwan Parshvanath, and emphasizing his principles of truth, non-violence, and compassion.

An exemplary student, he pursued his Bachelor’s degree in Arts from Victoria College, Gwalior (now known as Laxmibai College), and later earned an M.A. in Political Science from DAV College, Kanpur. His academic pursuits laid the foundation for a lifelong interest in governance, public policy and international relations.
• Vajpayee Ji’s political journey began during his student days when he participated in the Quit India Movement of 1942, a landmark campaign in India’s independence. His passion for public service drew him away from an initial career in journalism. In 1951, he joined the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the precursor to today’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He quickly rose through the ranks, earning a reputation as a gifted orator and sharp political thinker. His speeches, imbued with clarity, wit and poetic flair, resonated deeply with people across the country.
• Over a political career spanning more than four decades, Vajpayee Ji was elected to the Lok Sabha nine times and to the Rajya Sabha twice—a testament to his unwavering commitment to democratic principles. His parliamentary career was distinguished by roles as Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, Chairperson of important Standing Committees, and Leader of the Opposition. Each role saw him contributing to shaping India’s domestic and foreign policy.
• Vajpayee Ji served as India’s Prime Minister three times, including a full term from 1999 to 2004. His leadership during these years was transformative, marked by bold and visionary initiatives.
• Another hallmark of Vajpayee Ji’s leadership was his focus on infrastructure development. • Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati, was born on Falgun Krishna Dashami Vikrami Samvat 1981 (February 12, 1824) in Tankara village, Maurvi district of present Gujarat. His father’s name was Karsan Ji Tiwari and mother name was Amritbai. His birth name was Moolshankar. While fasting on Shivratri and witnessing rituals in the Shiva temple, the curious child Moolshankar attained enlightenment and left his home at the age of 19 years to attain the darshan of the devout God and set out on a journey of purity.
• He went to Mathura and got the education of grammar, vedas and scriptures from Guru Virjanand Dandi and learned from his philosophy that the main reason for the dilemma in the present condition of the country is the prevalence of wrong meanings instead of the correct meanings of the Vedas.
• During his journey, he saw the web of religious pomp, superstition and social evils spread in the society and understood why we are slaves of others in our own country. Seeing the country’s poverty, illiteracy, plight of women, destruction of language and culture, Dayanand Saraswati became extremely moved. He learned that when India had the knowledge of Vedas, India was the world leader. He pledged to re-establish the Vedas, Vedic religion and ancient culture in India by offering his entire life as Gurudakshina to Guru Virjanand.
• He expressed his views on religious, social and political issues through his classic book ‘Satyarth Prakash’. For the first time, he created awareness in the context of cow protection, Hindi protection, usefulness of Sanskrit language, Swadeshi, self-language and self-respect.
• He established Arya Samaj in Mumbai in the year 1875 to keep his goals continuously moving forward. In order to restore India to the position of world leader, on Vedas, he presented its actual commentary before the countrymen and talked about the right of everyone to read the Vedas and to act in life as per the Vedic principles. In his short but precious life, he fiercely attacked religious superstitions and social evils. Proclaiming the message of the Vedas as ‘Mata Prakarana Bhavati’, he became the biggest advocate of women’s education. He called for bringing a large section of the Hindu society, which had been isolated due to casteism, untouchability and discrimination, into the mainstream of society, raising their standard of living and working for education.
• While propagating the cause of social upliftment, Swadeshi and patriotism, he became a thorn in the eyes of British. At the age of 59, he was poisoned and eventually he passed away in Ajmer on the eve of diwali on 30 Oct 1883.
• The actions undertaken by Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati during his lifetime, played a key role in restoring India to the position of world leader. Today the evil practices of casteism, untouchability, child marriage, polygamy, Sati practice, animal sacrifice, male sacrifice, purdah system, Devdasi have come down substantially. The works like inter-caste marriage, Dalit empowerment, widow remarriage, education campaign for all, women empowerment, right to education for women, right to read Vedas for all, education through Gurukul education system are being done by the government by making laws.
• His thoughts are eternal and relevant even today. Even after 200 years of his birth, the life of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati gives us new vision and consciousness, the light of truth given by him gives us new energy and life giving power to fulfill our resolve every day.

• Actively engaged in advancing child rights in India since 1949, on the very first year, UNICEF undertook a major public health initiative and supported the establishment of India’s first ever penicillin plant. In 1954, UNICEF helped establish a milk processing plant that brought solution to years of wastage of milk for the lack of preservation facilities. This also enabled the provision of free milk to children.
• In the subsequent years, UNICEF continued to collaborate with the Government of India on a series of milestone initiatives from expanding science education to revolutionizing rural water supply programmes; to responding to calamities including droughts and floods in several states. UNICEF played a key role in malaria and polio eradication.
• UNICEF was involved in championing initiatives to improve child nutrition, health, and education through such partnerships and support as the Guinea Worm Eradication Programme, National Mission on Immunization, Polio Eradication, women empowerment projects and support the National Health Mission.

• The Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav, an annual event initiated by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), is a landmark celebration dedicated to showcasing the vast cultural and economic potential of Northeast India. • One of the major highlights of the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav is the textile exhibition, which includes specialized pavilions for Muga and Eri Silk. These two silk varieties are not only integral to the region’s economy but are also symbols of its sustainable and eco-friendly practices. Muga silk, with its natural golden sheen, is unique to Assam, while Eri silk is celebrated as the only “vegan silk” in the world, as it is produced without harming the silkworm. Visitors to the event will get a firsthand look at the intricate processes involved in silk production, as well as exclusive designer collections at both the Muga Silk and Eri Silk Pavilions.
• The event will feature an array of handcrafted products that have earned GI status. This exclusive pavilion will provide visitors with the opportunity to explore and purchase a variety of Northeast Indian GI products, such as the famed Muga silk from Assam, Manipuri black pottery, and Naga chili. This conclave aims to bridge the gap between traditional craftspeople and modern designers, fostering collaborations that can take the region’s crafts to new heights.
• A special fashion show will be held to showcase the fusion of contemporary design with traditional textiles. The Fashion Show will feature top designers from the region collaborating with local artisans to create breathtaking ensembles that highlight the versatility and beauty of Northeast Indian textiles. From Muga silk gowns to Eri silk stoles, the runway will be a testament to the region’s growing influence in the global fashion industry.
• In addition to promoting culture and fashion, the Mahotsav is a powerful tool for economic development. The Buyer-Seller Meet, Investor Round Table, and Panel Discussions, core components of the event, will bring together manufacturers, artisans, and traders from Northeast India with buyers and investors from across the country and beyond. This platform will enable direct interactions, fostering long-term business relationships and facilitating bulk orders, which will be crucial for the artisans of the region. • Significance of the Stamp
  • The Octagram used in the logo is inspired by the symbol “Star of Lakshmi,” which represents spirituality, material wealth, agriculture, royalty, knowledge, courage, progeny, and victory. The logo signifies the eight states of the Northeast, each bearing the manifestation of the eight forms of the goddess of wealth and prosperity. By combining the rising sun and the octagram, the logo emphasizes the importance of each state in the Northeast in leading India towards growth and prosperity.
  • The “Xorai,” a traditional utensil, is a symbol of hospitality and reverence in Assam. It is used to offer “Tamul Paan,” a betel leaf and nut mixture, to welcome guests. In sacred places like “Naamghars,” it serves as a vessel to present Prasad to the divine. Beyond its practical uses, the “Xorai” is also a cherished gift, often presented to honored individuals as a token of respect.
  • Meghalaya is renowned for its golden fruit – the pineapple. With its perfect climate and skilled farmers, this golden fruit positions the state as a leader in sustainable agriculture. Meghalaya’s pineapples are a symbol of economic vibrancy and environmental responsibility.
  • Bamboo is deeply woven into the culture and economy of Tripura. From traditional rituals to modern construction, bamboo plays a vital role. It not only strengthens homes but also empowers communities through handicrafts and sustainable industries.
  • The graceful Sangai, Manipur’s state animal, is a rare and beautiful deer. With its distinctive antlers, it is often called the dancing deer. The Sangai is an endemic and endangered subspecies of Eld’s deer found only in Manipur, India.
  • The Mithun, or the Indian Bison’s head with its impressive horns, is a symbol of wealth, prosperity, and fertility. This unique bond between humans and Mithuns reflects the rich cultural heritage of Nagaland.
  • The Cheraw dance is a cherished tradition of Mizoram and is a celebration of life, performed at various festivities. The dancers, holding bamboo staves, create intricate patterns inspired by the beauty of nature.
  • The great Indian hornbill is a symbol of courage, tradition, and ecological balance in Arunachal Pradesh. The hornbill’s beak is a mark of manhood and valor. These magnificent birds play a crucial role in maintaining the health of the forest, earning them the title “farmers of the forest.”
  • The endless knot, a symbol of eternal wisdom and compassion, is deeply revered in Sikkim. It represents the interconnectedness of all beings and the endless cycle of life, death, and rebirth.
