About :
- A 50-yen postage stamp showing the emblem of the Rotary International and Mt. Fuji has been issued to commemorate the 1978 convention in Tokyo of the Rotary International.
- The history of Rotary International dates back to 1905, when four businessmen of Chicago started volunteer services for society. Their activity gained extensive support and developed into an international organization within a short period of time. In Japan the Tokyo Rotary Club was inaugurated in 1920 to become an official member of the Rotary International.
- At present there are about 1,400 Rotary clubs in Japan; its membership totals about 75,000 – the second largest in the world only after the United States.
- The 1978 Tokyo Convention will be held at the National Stadium in Yoyogi, Tokyo, from May 14 to 18 under the theme of “International Understanding and Services for Mankind“. About 40,000 Rotarians including about 9,000 members from abroad are expected to attend the international meeting.
