• Uddhavdas Mehta, was born on 9 August 1911 in Bhopal. He was the son of Pt. Moolchand Ji Pauranik. He received formal education in Sanskrit and Ayurveda at Kashi. Along with being a highly regarded Ayurvedic physician, he was also deeply engaged in the preparation of classical, scripture-based medicines.
• His life was defined by fearlessness, integrity, and unwavering dedication to public welfare. He firmly rejected various official positions and inducements offered by the Nawabi regime, choosing instead to stand with the suffering masses and fight for their rights. In 1930, he presented a 25-point charter of demands before the Nawab.
• In 1934, he launched “Praja Pukar,” Bhopal’s first Hindi weekly newspaper, demonstrating exceptional courage in journalism under repressive rule. As a result, cases were filed against him by both the Nawabi and British authorities, but he was honourably acquitted. His involvement in the Civil Liberties Movement, Hyderabad Satyagraha, and the establishment and expansion of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in Bhopal remains historically significant. In 1947, his indefinite fast against communal violence forced the Nawabi administration to restore damaged temples and compensate losses.
• He played a decisive role in the movement for Bhopal’s merger with the Indian Union. • On 23^rd March, 1925, the Association of Indian Universities was incepted as the ‘Inter-University Board of India,’ an authorised central agency to develop higher education in India to the highest standards with the concerted efforts of all universities and other higher education bodies together. It was registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, on September 29, 1967, and was rechristened as the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) in 1973. It is now a flagship body for Indian higher education institutions and a valued source of research-based policy advice to the Government of India. Starting as a start-up with higher education as its focus, it has been growing resiliently and resolutely, adding new and allied dimensions like the Equivalence of Degrees/Qualifications of Indian and Foreign Universities, Research and Training, Sports, Cultural Activities, Promotion of Youth Affairs, etc., into its ambit.   • Asparagus racemosus Willd. (Shatavari): The plant is a perennial, prickly climber and a highly branched undershrub found throughout the tropical and subtropical regions of India. • India is not only home to diverse medicinal plants but also a global centre of botanical knowledge, with traditional systems documenting nearly 8,000 plant-based remedies. A large share of the population, especially in rural areas, still depends on these accessible and time-tested natural medicines. • Perumbidugu Mutharaiyar II was one of the most distinguished rulers of ancient Tamil Nadu. Also known as Suvaran Maran and Perarasar Perumbidugu, he ruled the fertile and culturally vibrant Kaveri delta region with unmatched leadership, courage, and a deep commitment to public welfare during the 8^th century CE.
• He reigned from Tiruchirappalli, extending his authority across what is today Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Perambalur, and Thiruvarur. Belonging to the renowned Mutharaiyar dynasty, which governed the heart of Tamil Nadu between 600 and 900 CE, his lineage is celebrated for its remarkable contributions to military, administrative, religious, and cultural spheres. As members of the powerful hunter-warrior communities of India, the Mutharaiyar rulers rose to prominence through their martial skills and became custodians of Tamil society’s spiritual and literary traditions.
• His military campaigns were fought across several strategically significant regions such as Kodumbalur, Manalur, Thingalur, Kanthalur, Azhundhiyur, Karai, Marangur, Pugazhi, Annalvayil, Sembonmari, Vengodal, and Kannanur. These successful campaigns helped solidify his dominion over key trade routes and cultural centers of the Kaveri delta. His exceptional command and fearless leadership earned him several honorific titles which were later engraved in temple pillars and copper plates. These include Chatru Kesari, Abimana Theeran, Vazhvari Vengai, Shri Chathru Mallan, Shri Kalvar Kalvan, Thanjaikon, Vallakkon, and Vanmaran. Each title reflected a distinct facet of his legacy — as a protector, warrior, strategist, and noble ruler.
• Perumbidugu Mutharaiyar II was not only a valiant king but also a generous patron of Tamil literature, poetry, and temple architecture. His court welcomed and supported several celebrated Tamil poets and scholars of the time. Among them were Pachizhvel Namban, Kottatru Vellam Perumanar, Aachariyar Aniruthar, and Amarunilai Ayina Kuvavan Kanchan, whose verses immortalised his achievements and ideals.
• These literary compositions, particularly the Venbaas, were later inscribed on temple walls, ensuring their preservation through generations. The Sendalai Sundhareswarar Temple in Thanjavur district houses many of these inscriptions. • Equally important was his devotion to religion and temple-building. He extended royal patronage to several temples, including the historic Vallam Ekawari Amman Temple near Thanjavur. It continues to stand today as a living testimony to the dynasty’s commitment to preserving Shaivite traditions and village-based temple worship.

Racket sports flourish with three refurbished badminton courts that host state and national events; five squash courts that stage major tournaments and five synthetic tennis courts, now further enhanced by a newly added padel court. The club also features a swimming pool used for training, recreation, and galas; a world-class billiards and snooker room that hosts All India tournaments and selection trials; a dedicated bridge room for regular play and inter-club events; and a modern, fully equipped fitness centre. Polo has seen a remarkable revival with the return of the historic 1882 Bombay Polo Challenge Cup and the recent Arena Polo Championship; both held on the football ground. Mahjong, too, continues to grow steadily with regular sessions and successful internal and inter-club tournaments.

• The National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) is a leading Indian institution dedicated to polar and ocean research, operating under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES). Established in 1992 in Vasco-Da-Gama, Goa, as the Antarctic Study Centre to support the Indian Antarctic Expeditions. This early focus on Antarctic logistics laid the foundation for its evolution into a prominent scientific research hub.
• Since its inception, NCPOR has undergone significant transformation. Initially a logistics support base, it expanded its focus to encompass polar, oceanic, and Himalayan environments, with core expertise in cryosphere studies and polar operations. The centre moved to a new, dedicated campus in Goa in 1996, a facility dedicated to the nation on April 5, 2000. This milestone marked the beginning of an expanded research mandate. Over time, NCPOR broadened its research portfolio to include Oceanography, Arctic studies, and Himalayan research. This growth led to its rebranding as the National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research (NCAOR), and eventually in 2018, it was renamed the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research to better reflect its comprehensive scope.
• NCPOR’s multi-dimensional mandate encompasses the management of all scientific and logistical aspects of India’s annual expeditions to the Antarctic, Arctic, and Southern Ocean. This includes overseeing the operations and maintenance of the Indian research bases – Maitri and Bharati in Antarctica, Himadri in the Arctic, and Himansh in the Himalayas – which serve as vital centres for extensive research on climate change and environmental dynamics. Adding to the significance of these stations, the Department of Posts established a post office at the Maitri research station on 26 January 1990, and more recently opened a second branch at the Bharati research station on 5 April 2024, where members of the 43^rd Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica (ISEA) nominated as Branch Postmasters. Beyond polar and high-altitude operations, NCPOR is heavily involved in geoscientific research within India‘s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and extended continental shelf. The centre conducts comprehensive surveys and is engaged in deep-sea drilling through the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP), exploring non-living oceanic resources like gas hydrates and multi-metal sulphides. These activities are integral to the Government of India‘s Deep Ocean Mission.
