His film lyrics, from devotional hymns to romantic duets, demonstrated his versatility and deep understanding of both classical and contemporary idioms. His landmark works include Tvamevaham, a searing poetic refection on war and human suffering, and countless film songs that continue to resonate across generations.
• Arudra was also a passionate researcher and revivalist of traditional arts. His scholarship on Vilasini Natyam, a classical dance form, played a pivotal role in its preservation and revival. • Sri Madhvacharya, the founder of the Dvaita (dualistic) school of Vedanta, was born around 1238 CE in the village of Pajaka near Udupi, in present-day Karnataka, India. He belonged to a Tulu Brahmin family and exhibited a deep spiritual inclination from an early age. Known for his extraordinary intellect, physical strength, and devotion, he began his formal education under his father, Madhyageha Bhatta, and local scholars.
• By the age of 16, Madhvacharya chose to renounce worldly life and took monastic vows (Sannyasa) under Achyutapreksha, the head of a local Advaita monastery. However, over time, he developed philosophical ideas that challenged the core tenets of Advaita Vedanta.
• Sri Madhvacharya’s principal contribution to Indian philosophy was the establishment of Dvaita Vedanta. The dualistic philosophy stood in direct contrast to the non-dualistic Advaita school founded by Adi Shankaracharya. • Laxmidas Borkar, born as Dattaram Krishna Borkar on 17 August 1925 in Kusman (Quepem), Goa, was the son of Krishna Dattaram Borkar and Umabai Krishna Borkar. He was a distinguished freedom fighter, journalist, writer and social reformer. He began his academic journey with primary education in Marathi. He completed his Lyceum in seven years, laying the foundation for a life dedicated to service, literature and nation-building.
• Laxmidas Borkar spent 16 formative years as a freedom fighter. He joined the Goa Seva Sangh in 1943. Later, he became an executive committee member of the Goa Congress Committee (Bombay Branch). A close associate of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, he was arrested during the historic 18^th June 1946 movement in Margao. He also participated in multiple Satyagraha protests across Goa, including in Shiroda, Ponda and Castle Rock. He often faced arrests, beatings and detentions. His dedication to civil liberties and the call for Goa’s freedom remained unwavering.
• He played a significant role as office secretary and later president of the National Congress of Goa (Bombay Branch). Representing Goan voices at national and international platforms, he interviewed Mahatma Gandhi on the “Goa Topic”. He was selected as the Goan People’s representative to sign the representation before the International Court of Justice at The Hague.
• Laxmidas Borkar’s journalistic journey spanned 51 years. He served at renowned publications including Loksatta, Indian Express, Financial Express, Screen, Navaprabha, Lincoln Star (USA), and Blitz. • Of all the regional cultures, Odisha or the ancient Kalinga played a very conspicuous and vital role in the cultural matrix of Indian civilization. From the time immemorial Odisha has attracted a large number of scholars, artists and tourists.
• Kantakabi Lakshmikanta Mohapatra was born at Bakharabad, Cuttack on 09.12.1888. He hailed from the family of freedom fighters and received the honour of Kantakabi in 1934. From his childhood, he was fond of songs, music, drama and literature. By cruel blow of destiny, he was affected by leprosy; but it could not prevent him from pursuing his creative writing. He contributed to all aspects of literary world of Odia literature. He has written beautiful parodies, the most famous among them is “Chataka Chandra Hasa Champu”. Kantakabi used to encourage young writers through his magazine, “Dagara”, which was being published from Bhadrak, Odisha.
• When the freedom movement led by Mahatma Gandhi gripped the entire nation, Kantakabi through his patriotic songs used to enthuse the masses. He also actively participated in the movement of unification of Odia speaking areas and penned down “Bande Utkal Janani”, the song which has been accorded the State Anthem by the Odisha State. He breathed his last on 24.02.1953. He lives in the heart of Odia people through his immortal work.

• In India, spirituality and religion are part of people’s everyday life. Since ancient times, the Rishis & Munis of India preferred to attain spiritual pursuits rather than materialistic pursuits of life. Hence, spiritual wisdom gained an upper hand over materialistic prosperity. Since ages, spiritual seekers from India have shown the world, the higher path of living.
• Sri Aurobindo was born in Calcutta on 15^th August 1872. At the age of seven he was sent to England for education. There he studied at St. Paul’s School, London, and at King’s College, Cambridge. After return to India in 1893, he worked for the next thirteen years in the Princely State of Baroda in the service of the Maharaja and as a professor in Baroda College. During this period, he also joined a revolutionary society and took a leading role in secret preparations for an uprising against the British Government in India.
• In 1906, soon after the Partition of Bengal, Sri Aurobindo quit his post in Baroda and went to Calcutta, where he soon became one of the leaders of the Nationalist movement. He was the first political leader in India to openly put forward, in his newspaper Bande Mataram, the idea of complete Independence for the country. Prosecuted twice for sedition and once for conspiracy, he was released each time for lack of evidence.
• Sri Aurobindo had begun the practice of Yoga in 1905 in Baroda. In 1910 he withdrew from politics and went to Pondicherry in order to devote himself entirely to his inner spiritual life and work. During his forty years in Pondicherry he evolved a new method of spiritual practice, which he called the Integral Yoga. According to Sri Aurobindo, spiritual realization not only liberates man’s consciousness but also transforms his nature. In 1926, with the help of his spiritual collaborator, the Mother, he founded the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. Among his many writings are The Life Divine, The Synthesis of Yoga and Savitri. Sri Aurobindo left for heavenly abode on 5^th December 1950.
• After the death of Sri Aurobindo, Sri Aurobindo Society was started by the Mother on 19^th September 1960. She was not only the founder and the Executive President but also remains its guiding force. From a very small beginning, over the years, the Society has grown into an international organization working in diverse fields of life, like integral education, Indian culture, emergency response management and sustainable development.
• Sri Aurobindo has been a scholar, a literary critic, a philosopher, a revolutionary, a poet, a yogi and a rishi. He was all these and much more and has touched the souls of millions in India and abroad. Sri Aurobindo has been an inspiration to all those who wants to make this world a better place by making improvements in their inner world.
• India in its 75^th Years of its Independence and as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations is commemorating the life of spiritual masters whose work and values resonates with the soul of India. • Swami Karpatri Ji Maharaj was born on 1907 AD (Samvat 1964 Vikrami) on the second day of Shukla Paksha, in the month of Shravan in Bhatni village of Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh as the son of Smt. Shivrani Devi and Shri Ramnidhi Ojha. His surname was Harinarayan Ojha. Swami Karpatri Ji Maharaj received education in the various disciplines of Sanskrit, Grammar, Philosophy, Bhagwat, Nyayashastra and Vedanta. Swami Ji was married to Mahadevi at the age of 16, but after a few years, after getting detached from worldly illusion, he started on the path of public welfare and spirituality in search of knowledge. In 1926 AD, after leaving home and wandering on the banks of the Ganges, he prayed at the feet of Swami Shri Brahmananda Saraswati for initiation of Sanyasa Deeksha. He was instructed to study in Narwar, Madhya Pradesh and thereafter taking Naishthik Brahmacharyavrata, he became Harihara Chaitanya from Padati Harinarayan and after reaching Narwar, he received all the teachings from Shaddarshanacharya Swami Shri Vishweshwarashram Ji within thirteen months. After attaining knowledge, while living in solitude on the banks of the Ganges he did severe penance and also meditated in the cave of Rishikesh Himalayas.
• After coming out of deep self-realizing meditative contemplation (Samadhi), he continued to travel and disseminate knowledge. May truth prevail, may unrighteousness be destroyed, may there be goodwill among the living beings, may there be welfare of the world – he spread such knowledge to the people. Paramhansa Harihara Chaitanya got the name of Karpatri as he ate food without using a dish on his hand and he became popular as Swami Karpatri Ji Maharaj.
• In the year 1931-32, at the age of 24, after receiving due knowledge from Swami Shri Brahmanand Saraswati Ji Maharaj in Kashi, he came to be known as Hariharanand Saraswati and became a complete saint who became famous as “Paramhans Paribrajakacharya 1008 Baba Hariharanand Saraswati Shri Karpatri Ji Maharaj”. In the year 1932, by traveling all over India for the purpose of promoting religion, he awakened spiritual consciousness by interacting extensively with the teachers, scholars and religious lovers and in the year 1932 itself, on the occasion of Haridwar Kumbh, in Haridwar–Rishikesh, he exchanged scholarly thoughts with Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya.
• Swami Karpatri Ji Maharaj not only gave knowledge to the people in the society through his religious journeys but also wrote books along with the publication of various magazines. His main texts include Sankirtan Mimamsa and Varnashrama Maryada, Samanvaya Samrajya Sanrakshan, Sri Bhagvatatva, Marxism and Ramarajya, Ved ka Swaroop and Pramanya (Form of Vedas and their evidences), Veda Pramanya Mimamsa, Ahmartha and Paramartha Saar, Bhakti Rasarnava, Veda Swaroop Vimarsh, Chaturvarnya Sanskriti Vimarsh, Vichara Piyush, Vedarthparijat, Ramayan Mimamsa etc. He was bestowed honour for many of these books. He was honoured with five thousand rupees by the Government of Uttar Pradesh for his work on Bhakti Rasarnava Granth and five thousand rupees by Hanuman Trust, Calcutta for his work in Ramayana Mimamsa Granth. Considering his erudition, he was honoured with the degree of D.Litt in 1978 by Shri Sampurnanand Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi.
• In the year 1940, he founded ‘Dharma Sangh’ and created awareness among the followers of Vedic Sanatan everywhere by undertaking extensive pilgrimages on foot. After establishing Shri Dharmasangh Shiksha Mandal, Kashi, he also established Sanskrit schools at various places under it. He also constituted the ‘Ramrajya Parishad’ and nominated several candidates on its ticket for the elections of 1951 and 1957. Till the end of life, remaining devoid of attachment, egoism and karma-attachment, he continued enthusiastically towards the promotion of Vedic religion culture. He passed away on February 7, 1982 and merged with the great universe.

• May 02, 2021 is the birth centenary of the Oscar winning Indian world famous filmmaker Satyajit Ray. Satyajit Ray was an Indian film director, script writer, art director, documentary filmmaker, author, book cover designer, lyricist, magazine editor, publisher, calligrapher and music composer and music director. He was also graphics designer, writer and film critic. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest film makers in film history.
• Satyajit Ray was born on May 02, 1921 in an intellectual and affluent family in the then Calcutta, Bengal Presidency in British India [Now Kolkata, West Bengal, India]. He was son of the famous author Sukumar Ray who might still be considered one of the best authors in Bengali literature who before Tagore received the Nobel Prize in 1913, gave a talk at the East and West society in London about Tagore’s songs, by reading the essay – ‘The Spirit of Rabindranath’. His mother was visionary Kalinarayan Gupta’s granddaughter Suprabha Das. His grandfather Upendra Kishore Ray was a distinguished artist, Musician, Music composer and Printing pioneer.
• Satyajit Ray studied at the University in Calcutta and later came to Shantiniketon in 1940 and joined Vishva Bharati university of Rabindranath Tagore to study art. He began his career as a commercial artist. He founded Calcutta’s first film society in 1947. Bijoya Ray was the wife of Satyajit Ray. Bijoya and Satyajit were first cousins. After long courtship, they were married in 1949.
• Satyajit Ray made his first film Pather Panchali (1955, Song of the Little Road) while working at an advertising agency. On August 26, 1955, Pather Panchali was finally released in Calcutta where one of its billboards designed by Satyajit Ray portrayed Apu and Durga running in a Vast landscape of dark monsoon clouds which gave the film an exquisite illusionary allusion as if a visual manifestation of any wonderful epic episode of any unprecedented and remarkable legend displayed in a billboard!
• There was a screening of Pather Panchali for Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India who was on a visit to Calcutta. Nehru was moved by the film and ensured that Pather Panchali was entered in the Cannes Films Festival, 1956. The film won the special jury prize for “The Best Human Document”. Pather Panchali went on to win a dozen odd prizes at home and film festivals abroad, including Best Actress for Chunibala for her role as Indir Thakrun at Manila.
• Pather Panchali with his Aparajito (1956, The Unvanquished) and Apur Sansar (1959, The World of Apu) are known as ‘Apu Trilogy’. His later films include Jalsaghar (1958, The Music Room), Kanchenjunga (1962), Charulata (1964, The Lonely Wife), Ashani Sanket (1973, Distant Thunder), The Chess Players (1977), (1984, The Home and the World), Ganashatru (1990, Public Enemy) and Agantuk (1991, The Stranger). The success of Pather Panchali gave Satyajit Ray total control over his Subsequent films.
• Apart from being an incredible filmmaker Satyajit Ray wrote numerous books for children and even illustrated some of his characters. ‘Feluda’ and ‘Professor Shonku’ are his remarkable creations in Bengali literature. His books have also been translated in English, German, Polish, French, Spanish, Italian and other Indian languages.
• Satyajit Ray received many noticeable awards and gained a prestigious position over his life time. In 1978, he was awarded an honorary degree by Oxford University. He received Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1985. He was awarded the legion d’honneur (Legion of Honour) by the President of France in 1987. The Government of India honoured him with the Bharat Ratna, its highest civilian award in 1992. Satyajit Ray received Academy Honorary Award in 1992, becoming the first Indian to receive an Honorary Oscars. He received the Award for Life time Achievement.
• Satyajit Ray died in Calcutta (Now Kolkata), West Bengal on 23 April 1992 (aged 70). His wife Bijoya Ray died in Calcutta (Now Kolkata), West Bengal on 02 June 2015 (aged 97). Their only son Sandip Ray is also a celebrated film director.
• Satyajit Ray was a humanist and poetic naturalist artist filmmaker. The influences of the Ajanta and Ellora style of paintings are seen in his arts and works. Satyajit Ray the legendary Indian filmmaker and among the dozen or so great master of world cinema, is known for his humanistic approach to cinema. Satyajit Ray’s life in Shantiniketon and its Surroundings where he experienced the rural life of Bengal that reflected in his films like Pather Panchali (1955, Song of the Little Road) and Apur Sansar (1959, The world of Apu).

• Manikchandra Vajpayee (Mama ji) led a selfless life and remained engaged in social service till the end of his life.
• He was born on October 7, 1919 in Bateshwar, district Agra (Uttar Pradesh). He completed his education from Morar, Gwalior. He secured first position in the Middle Board Examination in Gwalior State and received a Gold Medal in the Inter Ajmer Board Examination. He was a Pracharak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh from 1944 to 1953. He was a pioneer in establishment of a college in Adokhar (Bhind) and convener for Central India of Swadeshi Jagran Manch and organisational secretary for Central India of Jansangh between 1951 and 1954.
• He began his career in journalism as an editor of Weekly ‘Deshmitra’ published from Bhind. He was associated with ‘Dainik Swadesh’, Indore since its establishment in 1966, and was the editor of this newspaper between 1968 and 1985. Later, as an editorial advisor of Bhopal, Jabalpur, Sagar, Raipur and Bilaspur editions of ‘Swadesh’, he guided several journalists.
• During the emergency, he was in jail for 20 months. He was an eloquent writer. His articles and editorials are still relevant. He covered historical events in great detail in books such as ‘Aapatkalin Sangharsh Gatha’, ‘Pratham Agni Pariksha’, ‘Bharatiya Nari Swami Vivekanand Kee Drishti Men’, ‘Kashmir Ka Kadva Sach’, ‘Jyotijala Nij Pran Ki’ and ‘Madhya Bharat Kee Sangh Gatha’.
