• 16 December 2023 marks the 52^nd (1971-2023) Anniversary of the Glorious Victory Day of the Great Liberation War of Bangladesh. After a long struggle, the Bangalee people irrespective of religion or color became united in 1971 under the indomitable, undaunted, vigorous and brave leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. It was a glorious chapter in the annals of Bangladesh. On this day in 1971 Bangalee nation, under the charismatic leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, achieved the ultimate victory over Pakistan after 24 years of intense political struggle and a nine-month long bloody war of liberation.
• During the Great Liberation War of Bangladesh Pakistan Army and its local collaborators (Al-Badr, Al-Shams and the Razakars) carried out the worst, hellish and devised genocide of the 20^th century in Bangladesh and killed 3 million people. 200 thousand women lost their innocence in the Great Liberation War of Bangladesh. An estimated 10 million Bangalee refugees fled to neighboring country India while 30 million were internally displaced.
• On the 52^nd anniversary of Great Victory Day let us all work from our respective position under the leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the able daughter of the Great Hero of Independence, the Great Architect of Independent and Sovereign Bangladesh, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for building a hunger-free, poverty-free, exploitation-free, secular, happy and prosperous democratic Bangladesh as dreamt by Bangabandhu and 3 million martyrs of Great Liberation War of Bangladesh.

• In order to meet the national demand of Urea to guarantee that farmers to have access fertilizer at reasonable prices to ensure food security focus was given to the abnormal increase in gas consumption per ton of Urea production, downtime, and maintenance frequency in the Urea Fertilizer factories located in Polash Upazila of Narsingdi District as the factories became very old. In light of the Honorable Prime Minister’s visit on 24 August 2014 to the Ministry of Industries she said, “Priority should be given to the delivery of gas to both public and commercial companies, particularly those that produce fertilizer. In order to replace the current, outdated refinery, BCIC must build a new refinery using energy-efficient technology. In the Polash and Ghorashal fertilizer industries, new machineries should be installed in place of outdated equipment in an effort to swiftly boost productivity”.
• The Ministry of Industries set up the “Ghorashal Polash Urea Fertilizer Project” in accordance with the aforementioned directives. Subsequently, in order to carry out the project, it was last modified on April 11, 2015, utilizing the Bidder Financing method. The Committee on Economic affairs of the Cabinet granted permission M/S MITSUBISHI Heavy Industries Limited (MHI), Japan and China National Chemical Engineering No. 7 Construction Co. Ltd. (Cc7).
• As a government priority project and for obtaining international commercial loans on July 11, 2019, the foreign commercial loan proposal for the Ghorashal Polash Urea Fertilizer Project, which was filed by M/S MHI, Japan, and CC7, the China Consortium, were authorized at the Standing Committee on Non-Concessional Loan meeting under the program. Commercial loans are offered by the following banks:
  • Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC)
  • Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC)
  • Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd. (MUFG)
• It is to be noted that loans offered by HSBC and MUFG banks are protected by Nippon Export and Import Insurance (NEXI) and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
• Polash Urea Fertilizer Factory Limited (PUFFL), situated in Polash Upazila of Narsingdi District, was established on 09/10/2018 with the goal of producing granular Urea that is energy-efficient and has a capacity of 2800 mt tons per day (9 lakh 24 thousand mt tons per annum) as part of the GPUFP project that was approved in the ECNEC meeting. Following the conclusion of all relevant official procedures on October 24, 2018 contract was signed between M/S MHI, Japan, and CC7, China Consortium, the project’s general contractor. This project makes use of machinery and parts produced in highly developed nations like Germany, Italy, and Japan. This project has made use of cutting-edge technology from the current, well-known process licensor. This will enable the plant to run continuously and produce more Urea while consuming comparatively less natural gas. Furthermore, this factory has a control room from which all of the plants are supervised. Consequently, compared to other factories, it will be easier to operate.
• This factory is environmentally friendly. A Green Fertilizer Factory defines what it is. By collecting and utilizing the carbon-dioxide gas released by the primary reformer, it will be feasible to enhance the production of Urea by 10%. The project makes use of a double-layer full-integrity ammonia storage tank. In addition, a top-notch ETP, or waste water treatment plant, ensures that liquid waste complies with environmental regulations before being dumped into the river. In accordance with MIGA’s guidelines, different businesses (municipalities, registered vendors, etc.) also separate and dispose of solid waste at specified locations.
• After the implementation of project per day 2800 mt tons of granular Urea will be produced. With cutting-edge machinery that can produce granular Urea that is environmentally friendly and energy-efficient, this plant is anticipated to be crucial in addressing the nation’s Urea shortage and rising demand. The project will establish Bangladesh’s largest granular Urea plant, saving a significant amount of foreign exchange, decreasing reliance on fertilizer imports, boosting agricultural self-sufficiency, and generating employment opportunities. The country’s economy will benefit greatly from this factory in terms of trade and commerce, agricultural economy, and agricultural production.

• Construction of “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel” in Chattogram under the river Karnaphuli is an initiative of the present government led by Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to fulfil the dream “Golden Bengal” of the greatest Bengali of all time, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which is the first under river road Tunnel in Bangladesh as well as in the South Asia. In the year 2010 Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared in a public meeting in Chattogram to construct a tunnel under the river Karnaphuli. Then the Project was initiated in 2011 by a feasibility study. Later on, during the visit of Hon’ble Prime Minister in China on 09 June, 2014 a Government to Government based Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with Chinese Government for constructing the tunnel. Accordingly, China Government nominated “China Communications Construction Company Ltd. (CCCC Ltd)” for Constructing the tunnel. Thereafter, on 30 June, 2015 the Loan Agreement was signed between Bangladesh Bridge Authority and China Communications Construction Company Ltd. (CCCC Ltd.). Afterward, on 14 October, 2016 the Loan Agreement was signed between Exim Bank of China & Economic Relation Division and in the Same day His Excellency Hon’ble President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping and Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the foundation stone of tunnel construction.
• Objectives of the Project: –
  • In order to make connectivity of the coveted “One City and Two Town” model, development of road communication with the south-east part of the country, connectivity with the Asian Highway Network, connection with Chattogram Port & Airport, reduction of existing traffic congestion bypassing Chattogram city, development of existing & developing industrial zone as well as for flourishing tourism industry at the Anowara end and for smooth functioning of port, initiatives were taken to construct a tunnel under the river Karnaphuli.
• Rationale of the Project: –
  • To enable the entry and berthing of large vessels with higher requirement of draft and length, construction of a Deep-Sea Port in Matarbari, Chattogram is under planning. It is expected that the cargo traffic through Chattogram will increase significantly after opening the operation of the Deep-Sea Port. Moreover, to avoid the sedimentation problem under the river Karnaphuli it is essential to construct a tunnel instead of a bridge. Thus, Construction of Tunnel appears to be a prerequisite in fulfilling the above important objectives.
• Tunnel Alignment: –
  • West Side: 2 Km downstream of the River Karnaphuli from the Airport & near Navy College.
  • East Side: At the Anowara end near KAFCO Fertilizer Factory.
  • Tunnel Type: Dual Two-Lane Tube.
• Construction Method: –
  • The tunneling works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel had been done by “Shield Driven Method”. In this method Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) had been used for excavation of Soil and Slurry Transportation System was used to remove the soil from the tunnel to Slurry Treatment Plant.
• Brief Description of Tunnel Tube: –
  • The total length of the tunnel is 3315 meters with Open-Cut, Cut & Cover, Working shaft on both sides and two Tubes of 2450 meter length. The maximum depth of the tunnel from mean sea level is 42.60 meter. The inner and outer diameters of the tunnel are 10.80 and 11.80 meter respectively. The inside vertical clearance is 4.90 meter and maximum slope is 4 percent.
  • The main round tube is divided into upper and lower parts. In the upper part vehicle will run over the concrete slab and on the surface there are systems for lighting, air circulation and security signals. The lower parts have an emergency exit with drainage system. In addition, there are three cross passage between the two tubes after every 700 meter for emergency rescue purpose. The inner height of every cross passage is 2.7 meter. The maximum speed limit of vehicle inside the tunnel is 80 km per hour.
• Due to strong political leadership and deft economic management of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina helped Bangladesh to meet all criteria for graduation out of Least Developed Country (LDC) status. Bangladesh achieved the status of Middle-Income Country crossing the lower Middle-Income threshold in 2015 and achieved a decade of 7 percent average GDP growth. After the opening of “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel” the Financial & Economic IRR will be respectively 6.19% & 12.49% and the Financial & Economic “Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR)” will be respectively 1.05 & 1.50. Moreover, it will accelerate the GDP growth rate of near about 0.166%. Due to the construction of “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel” the dream of “Golden Bengal” of Bangabandhu will move one step ahead and the macro economy of Bangladesh will be accelerated.

• Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave importance to the establishment of mosques and Islamic cultural centers and placed the Baitul Mukarram Mosque under the Islamic Foundation according to The Islamic Foundation Act, 1975. The dream of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to establish mosques and Islamic centers by declaring the Islamic Foundation Act on March 28, 1975, after 42 years, in 2017, his blessed daughter, Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, fulfilled the dream by taking initiatives to establish 560 model mosques and Islamic cultural centers in each district and upazila of Bangladesh and sets a unique example in the Muslim world. The current government’s 2014 election manifesto also promised to build one model mosque in each district and upazila. During the visit to the Ministry of Religious Affairs on the date 08-02-2015, the Honorable Prime Minister gave instructions to establish 560 model mosques and Islamic cultural centers in each district and upazila of Bangladesh to implement the said promise. After the proposal had sent accordingly, the project named “Establishing 560 model mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers in Zila & Upazila of Bangladesh” approved in the ECNEC meeting held on date 25-04-2017 with total estimated cost of Taka 9062.41 crores (nine thousand sixty-two crore and forty-one lakhs) and project duration within the period April 1, 2017 to December 31, 2019. “Establishing 560 model mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers in Zila & Upazila of Bangladesh” was fully funded by the government at a total estimated cost of Taka 8722.00 crores (eight thousand seven hundred and twenty two crores) period from April 2017 to December 2020 and approved as 1^st amended for implementation during the period. On date 30-12-2020, the project in the ECNEC meeting held on 26-06-2018, the project “Establishing 560 model mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers” extended till date 30-06-2021 without cost increase. In the ECNEC meeting held on last 07-12-2021, The project of “Establishing 560 model mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers in Zila & Upazila of Bangladesh” was fully funded by the government with a total estimated cost of Taka 9435.00 crores (nine thousand four hundred and thirty five crores) approved as 2^nd amended for implementation from April 2017 up to June 2024. 564 model mosques and Islamic cultural centers will be constructed under this project.
• On 05-04-2018, the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone for the construction of Model Mosque Islamic Cultural Center at 9 places in 8 divisions of the country through video conference.
• The Honorable Prime Minister inaugurated 50 Model Mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers in first phase on 10 June 2021, 50 in the second phase on 16 January 2023, 50 Model Mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers in the Third phase on 16 March 2023 and 17 April 2023, another 50 Model Mosques and Islamic Cultural Centers in the fourth phase by video conference.
• On the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr 2023, The Honorable Prime Minister wishes the countrymen Eid greetings. May Eid bring peace and prosperity to all. “Eid Mubarak”.
• Brief Description of Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center:
  • Each model mosque and Islamic cultural center is being built on 43 decimal of the land in three categories. Among them, 4 storey at district and city corporation level, 3 storey at upazila level and 4 storey (ground floor empty) model mosques and Islamic cultural centers are being constructed in coastal areas. A total of 69 four-storied model mosques and Islamic cultural centers are being constructed in 64 district towns and 3 city corporations in A-category. 479 model mosques are being constructed at upazila level in B-category. 16 model mosques are being constructed in coastal areas in C-category. The mosques will have separate ablution and prayer rooms for men and women, imam training centers, shelters, public education centers, research centers, libraries, funeral arrangements, autism corners, e-corners, guest houses and accommodation for foreign tourists.

About : 

• Shaheed Sheikh Kamal (5 August 1949 – 15 August 1975) was the eldest son of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and younger brother of Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
• He completed his matriculation from Shaheen School, Dhaka in 1967 and higher Secondary Certificate Examination from Dhaka College in 1969. He was the General Secretary of the Chatro League in Dhaka College. He practiced sitar at Chhayanaut, a school of music. At the same time, he was involved in diverse cultural activities and a keen sportsman. Kamal was an organizer of the Mukti Bahini. Kamal received war time commission in Bangladesh Army during the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
• He worked as the Aide-De-Camp (ADC) of General Osmani the Commander-in-Chief of the Mukti Bahini, during the Liberation War of Bangladesh. After independence, he left the military at the rank of Captain to return to University of Dhaka from where he graduated with Honours in sociology. Days before his tragic demise on 15 August 1975, Kamal completed his Masters Degree in sociology from Dhaka University. On 14 July 1975, he married an athlete, Sultana Khuki.
• Kamal, an avid sportsman, founded the Abahani in 1972, a popular sporting club of Bangladesh. He enjoyed cricket, volleyball, and other sports. Abahani went on to win many local championships. He was killed with the rest of his family on 15 August 1975.

• Postal Communication exists from the ancient age. The evidences of existence of earliest postal system in the subcontinent were found in the Vedic works of Atharvaveda record. The postal service of Bangladesh is an inseparable part of the subcontinent’s ancient Postal heritage. During the Great Liberation War of Bangladesh the Mujibnagar Government setup a Postal service with more than 50 field Post Offices in different front or border areas, fully or partially administered by the Mukti Bahini (Liberation force). Field Post Masters and Scouts were appointed for carrying mails. Mujibnagar Government released 08 definitive stamps, which were the first stamps of Bangladesh on 29 July 1971 simultaneously from the secretariat of Mujibnagar Government, Bangladesh diplomatic missions and the House of Commons in London.
• After the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent and sovereign state in 16 December 1971 the Directorate of Posts formally and officially started functioning from 20 December, 1971. It is a service oriented government organization under the Posts and Telecommunication Division, Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication & Information Technology. It is responsible for running postal and postal related services within the country and also with other countries of the world. Though the Bangladesh Post is a quite old organization but it had no building of its own for its Head Quarters.
• A 14 (fourteen) storied building with 02 (two) basements with all modern facilities as the model of Post Box on 75 acres of land in the Sher-E-Bangla Nagar Area of Dhaka City has been constructed as the Head Quarters of the Directorate of Posts.
• Aims and objectives of the project:
  • To establish individual Head Quarters of the Directorate of Posts, to ensure efficient and skillful administrative activities free from any obstacles, to run the activities of the Head Quarters of the Directorate of Posts centrally through well equipped modern machineries and information technologies and to create a healthy and developed working environment.
• The opening of the newly built Dak Bhaban as the Head Quarters of the Directorate of Post left behind an unique legacy of being inaugurated in the year of the Golden Jubilee of Independence and in the Mujib Year (Mujib Borsho) by the Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina whose beloved and very glorified great father, the Great Hero of Independence, the Great Architect of Independent and Sovereign Bangladesh and the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, under whose dynamic, charismatic and magical leadership and statesmanship Bangladesh became a member of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) on 7^th February 1973. • Widely known COVID–19 is a pandemic. It stands for Corona virus diseases–19. The virus was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. The World Health Organization declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern regarding COVID-19 on January 30, 2020 and later declared a pandemic on March 11, 2020. As of May 11, 2021 more than 158 Million cases have been confirmed, with more than 3.29 Million deaths attributed to COVID-19 making it one of the deadliest pandemic in history.
• The COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh is a part of the Worldwide pandemic of Corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The first confirmed cases were recorded in Bangladesh on March 08, 2020. Since then, the pandemic has spread day by day over the whole nation and the number of affected people has been increasing. Educational institutions remained close for over one year. Amidst rising numbers of cases the planned reopening of educational institutions, scheduled for March 30, 2021 was again postponed until May 23, 2021 according to an announcement by the Ministry of Education in March 2021.
• COVID-19 pandemic has affected almost all sectors of economy. The Government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina pragmatically and efficiently has been managing the COVID-19 situation within the constitutional framework of normal times. The effort and measures to tackle the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic by the Government of Bangladesh is indeed praiseworthy.

• May 02, 2021 is the birth centenary of the Oscar winning Indian world famous filmmaker Satyajit Ray. Satyajit Ray was an Indian film director, script writer, art director, documentary filmmaker, author, book cover designer, lyricist, magazine editor, publisher, calligrapher and music composer and music director. He was also graphics designer, writer and film critic. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest film makers in film history.
• Satyajit Ray was born on May 02, 1921 in an intellectual and affluent family in the then Calcutta, Bengal Presidency in British India [Now Kolkata, West Bengal, India]. He was son of the famous author Sukumar Ray who might still be considered one of the best authors in Bengali literature who before Tagore received the Nobel Prize in 1913, gave a talk at the East and West society in London about Tagore’s songs, by reading the essay – ‘The Spirit of Rabindranath’. His mother was visionary Kalinarayan Gupta’s granddaughter Suprabha Das. His grandfather Upendra Kishore Ray was a distinguished artist, Musician, Music composer and Printing pioneer.
• Satyajit Ray studied at the University in Calcutta and later came to Shantiniketon in 1940 and joined Vishva Bharati university of Rabindranath Tagore to study art. He began his career as a commercial artist. He founded Calcutta’s first film society in 1947. Bijoya Ray was the wife of Satyajit Ray. Bijoya and Satyajit were first cousins. After long courtship, they were married in 1949.
• Satyajit Ray made his first film Pather Panchali (1955, Song of the Little Road) while working at an advertising agency. On August 26, 1955, Pather Panchali was finally released in Calcutta where one of its billboards designed by Satyajit Ray portrayed Apu and Durga running in a Vast landscape of dark monsoon clouds which gave the film an exquisite illusionary allusion as if a visual manifestation of any wonderful epic episode of any unprecedented and remarkable legend displayed in a billboard!
• There was a screening of Pather Panchali for Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India who was on a visit to Calcutta. Nehru was moved by the film and ensured that Pather Panchali was entered in the Cannes Films Festival, 1956. The film won the special jury prize for “The Best Human Document”. Pather Panchali went on to win a dozen odd prizes at home and film festivals abroad, including Best Actress for Chunibala for her role as Indir Thakrun at Manila.
• Pather Panchali with his Aparajito (1956, The Unvanquished) and Apur Sansar (1959, The World of Apu) are known as ‘Apu Trilogy’. His later films include Jalsaghar (1958, The Music Room), Kanchenjunga (1962), Charulata (1964, The Lonely Wife), Ashani Sanket (1973, Distant Thunder), The Chess Players (1977), (1984, The Home and the World), Ganashatru (1990, Public Enemy) and Agantuk (1991, The Stranger). The success of Pather Panchali gave Satyajit Ray total control over his Subsequent films.
• Apart from being an incredible filmmaker Satyajit Ray wrote numerous books for children and even illustrated some of his characters. ‘Feluda’ and ‘Professor Shonku’ are his remarkable creations in Bengali literature. His books have also been translated in English, German, Polish, French, Spanish, Italian and other Indian languages.
• Satyajit Ray received many noticeable awards and gained a prestigious position over his life time. In 1978, he was awarded an honorary degree by Oxford University. He received Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1985. He was awarded the legion d’honneur (Legion of Honour) by the President of France in 1987. The Government of India honoured him with the Bharat Ratna, its highest civilian award in 1992. Satyajit Ray received Academy Honorary Award in 1992, becoming the first Indian to receive an Honorary Oscars. He received the Award for Life time Achievement.
• Satyajit Ray died in Calcutta (Now Kolkata), West Bengal on 23 April 1992 (aged 70). His wife Bijoya Ray died in Calcutta (Now Kolkata), West Bengal on 02 June 2015 (aged 97). Their only son Sandip Ray is also a celebrated film director.
• Satyajit Ray was a humanist and poetic naturalist artist filmmaker. The influences of the Ajanta and Ellora style of paintings are seen in his arts and works. Satyajit Ray the legendary Indian filmmaker and among the dozen or so great master of world cinema, is known for his humanistic approach to cinema. Satyajit Ray’s life in Shantiniketon and its Surroundings where he experienced the rural life of Bengal that reflected in his films like Pather Panchali (1955, Song of the Little Road) and Apur Sansar (1959, The world of Apu).
• Satyajit Ray the towering figure in the world cinema and remarkable filmmaker left behind an eternal legacy of a perpetual inspiration of inquisitiveness, cultivation of science, love, respect, kindness and humanity. His artistic legacy will live on forever through his classical cinema’s calligraphies, illustrations, book covers, books, arts and literary works.
