About :

  • 16 December 2023 marks the 52nd (1971-2023) Anniversary of the Glorious Victory Day of the Great Liberation War of Bangladesh. After a long struggle, the Bangalee people irrespective of religion or color became united in 1971 under the indomitable, undaunted, vigorous and brave leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. It was a glorious chapter in the annals of Bangladesh. On this day in 1971 Bangalee nation, under the charismatic leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, achieved the ultimate victory over Pakistan after 24 years of intense political struggle and a nine-month long bloody war of liberation.
  • During the Great Liberation War of Bangladesh Pakistan Army and its local collaborators (Al-Badr, Al-Shams and the Razakars) carried out the worst, hellish and devised genocide of the 20th century in Bangladesh and killed 3 million people. 200 thousand women lost their innocence in the Great Liberation War of Bangladesh. An estimated 10 million Bangalee refugees fled to neighboring country India while 30 million were internally displaced.
  • On the 52nd anniversary of Great Victory Day let us all work from our respective position under the leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the able daughter of the Great Hero of Independence, the Great Architect of Independent and Sovereign Bangladesh, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for building a hunger-free, poverty-free, exploitation-free, secular, happy and prosperous democratic Bangladesh as dreamt by Bangabandhu and 3 million martyrs of Great Liberation War of Bangladesh.
  • On this Great Victory Day we recall Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with profound respect and pay our deepest homage to him. We also pay our sincere homage to all martyrs and valiant Freedom Fighters of the Great Liberation War of Bangladesh who gifted us this Free and Independent Bangladesh. We wish all Bangladeshi nationals, in country and abroad a joyous and prosperous Victory Day-2023.

About :

  • Construction of “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel” in Chattogram under the river Karnaphuli is an initiative of the present government led by Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to fulfil the dream “Golden Bengal” of the greatest Bengali of all time, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which is the first under river road Tunnel in Bangladesh as well as in the South Asia. In the year 2010 Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared in a public meeting in Chattogram to construct a tunnel under the river Karnaphuli. Then the Project was initiated in 2011 by a feasibility study. Later on, during the visit of Hon’ble Prime Minister in China on 09 June, 2014 a Government to Government based Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with Chinese Government for constructing the tunnel. Accordingly, China Government nominated “China Communications Construction Company Ltd. (CCCC Ltd)” for Constructing the tunnel. Thereafter, on 30 June, 2015 the Loan Agreement was signed between Bangladesh Bridge Authority and China Communications Construction Company Ltd. (CCCC Ltd.). Afterward, on 14 October, 2016 the Loan Agreement was signed between Exim Bank of China & Economic Relation Division and in the Same day His Excellency Hon’ble President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping and Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the foundation stone of tunnel construction.
  • Objectives of the Project:
    • In order to make connectivity of the coveted “One City and Two Town” model, development of road communication with the south-east part of the country, connectivity with the Asian Highway Network, connection with Chattogram Port & Airport, reduction of existing traffic congestion bypassing Chattogram city, development of existing & developing industrial zone as well as for flourishing tourism industry at the Anowara end and for smooth functioning of port, initiatives were taken to construct a tunnel under the river Karnaphuli.
  • Rationale of the Project:
    • To enable the entry and berthing of large vessels with higher requirement of draft and length, construction of a Deep-Sea Port in Matarbari, Chattogram is under planning. It is expected that the cargo traffic through Chattogram will increase significantly after opening the operation of the Deep-Sea Port. Moreover, to avoid the sedimentation problem under the river Karnaphuli it is essential to construct a tunnel instead of a bridge. Thus, Construction of Tunnel appears to be a prerequisite in fulfilling the above important objectives.
  • Tunnel Alignment:
    • West Side: 2 Km downstream of the River Karnaphuli from the Airport & near Navy College.
    • East Side: At the Anowara end near KAFCO Fertilizer Factory.
    • Tunnel Type: Dual Two-Lane Tube.
  • Construction Method:
    • The tunneling works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel had been done by “Shield Driven Method”. In this method Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) had been used for excavation of Soil and Slurry Transportation System was used to remove the soil from the tunnel to Slurry Treatment Plant.
  • Brief Description of Tunnel Tube:
    • The total length of the tunnel is 3315 meters with Open-Cut, Cut & Cover, Working shaft on both sides and two Tubes of 2450 meter length. The maximum depth of the tunnel from mean sea level is 42.60 meter. The inner and outer diameters of the tunnel are 10.80 and 11.80 meter respectively. The inside vertical clearance is 4.90 meter and maximum slope is 4 percent.
    • The main round tube is divided into upper and lower parts. In the upper part vehicle will run over the concrete slab and on the surface there are systems for lighting, air circulation and security signals. The lower parts have an emergency exit with drainage system. In addition, there are three cross passage between the two tubes after every 700 meter for emergency rescue purpose. The inner height of every cross passage is 2.7 meter. The maximum speed limit of vehicle inside the tunnel is 80 km per hour.
  • Due to strong political leadership and deft economic management of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina helped Bangladesh to meet all criteria for graduation out of Least Developed Country (LDC) status. Bangladesh achieved the status of Middle-Income Country crossing the lower Middle-Income threshold in 2015 and achieved a decade of 7 percent average GDP growth. After the opening of “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel” the Financial & Economic IRR will be respectively 6.19% & 12.49% and the Financial & Economic “Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR)” will be respectively 1.05 & 1.50. Moreover, it will accelerate the GDP growth rate of near about 0.166%. Due to the construction of “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel” the dream of “Golden Bengal” of Bangabandhu will move one step ahead and the macro economy of Bangladesh will be accelerated.

About :

  • 17 April 2021 is the Golden Jubilee (17 April 1971-17 April 2021) of establishment of the Mujibnagar Government. The Golden Jubilee of the establishment of Mujibnagar Government is an important and significant milestone in the History of the Great Independence of Bangladesh. The first ever general elections of Pakistan in December 1970 under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Awami League won 167 seats out of 169 seats of East Pakistan in the Pakistan National Assembly. Under this circumstances General Yahya’s military junta govt. and Z.A. Bhutto, the leader of the West Pakistan, conspired not to allow Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to form the government in the centre. On 1 March 1971, President Yahya Khan postponed unilaterally the Dhaka National Assembly scheduled to be held on 3 March. This announcement triggered off the general agitation in East Pakistan. In response, on 7th March 1971 Bangabandhu made a historic address at the Ramna Race Course (now Suhrawardy Udyan) in Dhaka to a gathering of over a million of people which marked a turning point in the history of the Bengali (Bangalee) nation.
  • In this historic speech of 7th March, Bangabandhu proclaimed:The struggle this time is our struggle for liberation, the struggle this time is the struggle for our independence”. He announced a civil disobedience movement in the East Pakistan, calling for “every house to turn into a fortress.” The speech was effectively the direction of the independence of Bangladesh. The Pakistan Army in the dark night of 25 March launched “Operation Search light” against Bengali civilians, intelligentsia, students, politicians, armed personnel and carried out a systematic massacre. The Undisputed leader of the Bengali (Bangalee) nation, the Greatest Bangalee of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman proclaimed the independence of Bangladesh through the wireless of the then EPR at the first hour of March 26, 1971. The Military Junta Government of President Yahya Khan arrested Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and kept him in Prison in West Pakistan.
  • During time of hellish genocide in the dark night of 25 March Tajuddin Ahmad, one of the most important leaders of Awami league escaped from home. He reached India crossing the border. In India he met with Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India. After meeting with Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, where Indira Gandhi gave commitment of full support for Bangladesh Liberation War. Tajuddin Ahmad called for meeting of all M.N.A. and M.P.A. of Awami league at the border of Kushtia district. In that meeting Cabinet of Ministers was formed unanimously to conduct the Bangladesh Liberation War and run the Government.
  • This Cabinet of Ministers, M.N.A.s and M.P.A.s declared sovereign People’s Republic of Bangladesh Government making Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as its President. But Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at that time was in prison in West Pakistan. In absence of Bangabandhu, Syed Nazrul Islam was elected Vice-President and acting President Tajuddin Ahmed took charge as the Prime Minister. Captain M. Mansur Ali and A. H. M. Kamaruzzaman were also made Ministers. M. A. G. Osmani was made Chief of Army. Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmed gave speech in Bangladesh Betar giving declaration of forming Cabinet of Ministers.
  • After that on 17th April, 1971 the oath of the Cabinet of Ministers was held in Ambagan of Baidyanathtala of Meherpur of the then Kushtia district. The Leaders and invited guests started to come from 9 a.m. in the morning. Nearly 50 local and foreign journalists were present in that Ceremony. The Ceremony of Oath started in 11 a.m. in the morning. The Ceremony was started through reciting from the Holy Quaran and playing of National anthem. From the very beginning Bangladesh was declared as ‘People’s Republic of Bangladesh’. After that Provisional President introduced the Prime Minister and his Cabinet colleagues one after another. After that he declared the name of M. A. G. Osmani as Chief of armed forces and the name colonel Abdur Rob as Chief of staff of Army of the New State. After that the Declaration of Independence of Bangladesh was read there. From that day the name of that place was given as Mujibnagar. On that ceremony Provisional President and Prime Minister gave their address and request to the international community to recognize Bangladesh through local and foreign Journalists. Thus the emergence of People’s Republic of Bangladesh started during the time of Liberation War. This Government played important role in creating people’s support in home and abroad in favor of Bangladesh Liberation War and conducting Bangladesh Liberation War under the brave and dauntless leadership of Bangabandhu and after a 9 month of bloody war Bangladesh earned the ultimate victory on the 16 December, 1971 and a sovereign independent state – Bangladesh manifested in the world map.
  • The Golden Jubilee of the establishment of the Mujibnagar Government left behind an eternal legacy of a perpetual union of two Greatest unique events [(01) The Mujib Year: the yearlong birth centenary of the Father of the Nation has been defined by the Government of Bangladesh as The Mujib Year (17 March 2020-16 December 2021) and (02) The Year of the Golden Jubilee (1971-2021) of the Great Independence of Bangladesh] under the regime of Sheikh Hasina, the beloved daughter of the Great Hero of Independence, the Great Architect of the Independent and sovereign Bangladesh and the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman whose meeting probably will never happen in future again. The legacy of the Golden Jubilee (17 April 1971-17 April 2021) of the establishment of the Mujibnagar Government will live on forever.

About :

  • 26 March 2021 is the Glorious Golden Jubilee of the Great Independence of Bangladesh. The significance and importance of the Great Independence and National Day is immeasurable and unbounded in the National History of Bangladesh. The Glorious Golden Jubilee of the Great Independence of Bangladesh is obviously a landmark and milestone of the people of Bangladesh.
  • The Great Dreamer of the golden Bengal Bangabandhu dreamed an independent and sovereign state for the Bengali people of the East Pakistan and spread this magical web of dreams through his visionary six-point demand which created in the heart and mind of the Bengalis of East Pakistan a dream of emancipation and independence from the exploitation and robbing of rights of West Pakistan and for an independent motherland. At this moment Bangabandhu on December 5 in 1969, made a declaration naming the then East Pakistan as Bangladesh which ignited the political aspirations of the Bengali people of the East Pakistan as a nation. In the run-up to the general elections of December 1970, Bangabandhu and his political organization, the Awami League consistently referred to Bangladesh in their political pronouncements which grew the nationalist sentiment among the Bengalis in highest order. Thus in the first ever general elections of Pakistan in December 1970 under the magical, charismatic and great phenomenal leadership of Bangabandhu Awami League won an epic victory.
  • The Awami League won 167 seats out of 169 seats of East Pakistan in the Pakistan National Assembly. Under the circumstances General Yahya’s military junta and Z.A. Bhutto, conspired not to allow Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to form the government in the centre. In this historic speech of 7th March, Bangabandhu proclaimed:The struggle, this time is for freedom, the struggle this time is for independence”. He announced a civil non-cooperation movement in the East Pakistan, calling for “every house to turn into a fortress.” The speech was effectively the direction of the Independence of Bangladesh.
  • The Pakistan Army in the dark night of 25 March launched “Operation Searchlight” against Bengali civilians, intelligentsia, students, politicians, armed personnel and started the worst, hellish and devised Genocide of the 20th century. The Undisputed leader of the Bengali (Bangalee) nation, the Greatest Bengalee of all time, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman proclaimed the Independence of Bangladesh through the wireless of the then EPR at the early hours of March 26, 1971. In that proclamation Bangabandhu told that, “This may be my last message, from today Bangladesh is independent. I call upon the people of Bangladesh wherever you might be and with whatever you have, to resist the army of occupation to the last. Your fight must go on until the last soldier of the Pakistan occupation army is expelled from the soil of Bangladesh and final victory is achieved”.
  • The all-out War of Liberation of Bangladesh started after the Proclamation of the Independence of Bangabandhu. The freedom loving indomitable vigorous and brave sons of Bangladesh snatched the crimson sun of independence from the autocratic Junta of West Pakistan in exchange of a sea of blood. The Pakistani occupation and invading Army and their local collaborators; The Rajakars, Al-Badars, AL-Shams forces were defeated to the heroism of Bengali Nation and their patriotism. In the glorious Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 in Bangladesh (the then East Pakistan) the Pakistan Army and their local collaborators carried out the worst, hellish and devised Genocide of the 20th century where three million heroic sons sacrificed their lives and 200 thousand women lost their innocence being victims of assault and torture. After a 9 month-long bloody war under the indomitable, undaunted, vigorous and brave leadership of Bangabandhu, Bangladesh earned the ultimate Victory on the 16th December, 1971 and a Sovereign and Independent state – Bangladesh manifested in the world map.
  • The Golden Jubilee of the Great Independence of Bangladesh left behind an eternal legacy of 03 [01. The Golden Jubilee of the Great Independence of Bangladesh observed in the ‘Mujib Borsho’ or ‘Mujib Year’ (Yearlong celebration to mark the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, officially termed as “Mujib Borsho”. The Golden Jubilee of the Great Independence of Bangladesh observed in the regime of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina whose able and pragmatic leadership and statesmanship received Bangladesh’s final recommendation from United Nation for graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status on the eve of The Golden Jubilee of the Great Independence of Bangladesh. 03. Student leaders and present people supported this declaration raising their two hands up. In that significant moment an emotional environment was created in Ramna Race Course Maidan (now Suhrawardy Udyan).
  • The great protestor of the eternal deception, bondage and subjugation, insult and disgrace, mental agitation, robbing of right of the Bengali nation and the great revolutionist of the liberation struggle of the Bengali nation, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman became “Bangabandhu” through absolute love of the heart of the people of Bengali nation. The title Bangabandhu left behind a perpetual legacy of an eternal love, respect, reverence, emotion and passion of the Bengali Nation which is universal, unforgettable and vigilant forever in the heart and mind of the Bengali Nation. “Bangabandhu” is seated in the heart of crores of Bengali people with deep love and profound respect forever.

About :

  • The charter of emancipation and independence of the Bengali Nation, the six-point programme instantly stirred the younger section of the population of the country. The reaction of the Ayub Government was very sharp. Terming it ‘secessionist’ president Ayub threatened to suppress the demand with the ‘language of weapon’. At one stage, the Ayub Government had recourse to a sort of ‘final solution’ in regard to the six-point movement by instituting in 1968 a case of conspiracy against Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (already in custody) and 34 other accused civil-military officers known as the ‘Agartala conspiracy case’ but officially styled as ‘state versus Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and others’. The accused were charged with treason and conspiracy against the state of Pakistan.
  • The case caused a great turmoil and disorder in the then East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). The student community started a united movement against the autocratic Ayub Regime. They defied the section 144 imposed by the police and broke the barricades put by the then East Pakistan Rifles and came out to the streets in thousands.
  • Eventually, it created a Mass-Upsurge. The Pakistani intriguer military rulers ordered shooting in different places of the then East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) to suppress the Mass-Upsurge. During this movement, a lot of people were killed including Sergeant Zahurul Haq. The Law and order situation deteriorated and worsened to such an extent that the rebellious move took control of all important points in the then provincial capital of Dhaka. The Pakistani autocratic military Government was compelled to grant unconditional release to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and all the accused on February 22 and withdraw the infamous Agartala Conspiracy Case. Eventually Ayub Khan was compelled to resign from power and thus his infamous, intriguer and autocratic regime came to an end.
  • The unconditional release of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from the Agartala Conspiracy Case left behind a perpetual legacy of eternal emotion and passion of the Bengali Nation for Bangabandhu as manifested by exemplifying in the slogans where they chanted:we’ll break the locks of the jail and free Sheikh Mujib”, “Your leader, my leader, Sheikh Mujib, Sheikh Mujib” etc.

About :

  • The Language Movement is a glorious chapter in the history of Bangalee (Bengali) nation. East Pakistan Muslim Student League formed under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on January 4, 1948. The role of this organization is Specially Memorable in the history of the Language Movement. Among the demands of the Students League, the demand for state language was one of the important points. When Dhirendra Nath Datta’s Proposal in the Pakistan constituent Assembly Session on 23 February, 1948 for recognition of Bengali (Bangla) language as a language of Assembly with Urdu and English was repudiated, the agitated student community brought up strike on February 26, 1948 in Dhaka under the order of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other student leaders. The students of Dhaka University and other educational institutions actively participated in the general strike of March 11, 1948 realizing the right of state language Bengali (Bangla) called under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with other leaders: Shamsul Haque, Oli Ahad, Mohammad Toaha, Abul Kashem, Romesh Das Gupta and Ajit Guha and others.
  • In fact the demand for establishing Bengali (Bangla) language as one of the state languages of Pakistan got momentum on March 21, 1948 when Mr. Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founding father of Pakistan made inane declaration at the public meeting held at the then Race Course Maidan (now Suhrawardy Uddan) that Urdu and Urdu alone would be the state language of Pakistan. This declaration of Mr. Jinnah did not go unchallenged and an instant response of “no” came from few students of Dhaka University.
  • The Urdu-Bengali (Bangla) controversy was reignited when Jinnah’s successor governor-general Khawaja Nazimuddin staunchly defended the “Urdu-only” policy in a speech on 27 January, 1952. On 31 January, 1952 the Shorbodolio Kendrio Rashtro Bhasha Kormi Porishod (All Party Central Language Action Committee) was formed in a meeting at Dhaka chaired by Maulana Bhashani. The Action Committee called for an all out protest on 21 February, including strikes and rallies.
  • In an attempt to prevent the demonstration, the government imposed section 144 in Dhaka by banning any gathering there. The students of Dhaka University and other political activists defied the law and organized a protest movement on 21 February, 1952. The movement reached its climax when police killed student demonstrators on that day. Abdus Salam, Rafiq Uddin Ahmed, Sofiur Rahman, Abul Barkat and Abdul Jabbar were killed in this incident. The killing provoked widespread civil unrest. After years of conflict, the Central Government relented and granted official status to the Bengali (Bangla) Language in 1956.
  • Shaheed Minar is the name of the eternal monument built in memory of the Language Martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Language Movement on 21 February 1952. Shaheed Minar stands as a universal symbol of linguistic struggle of the Bengali (Bangalee) people of Bangladesh. In 1999, UNESCO declared “21st February” as International Mother Language Day, in tribute to the Language Martyrs, Language Movement and Ethno-Linguistic right of people around the world. In its resolution the UNESCO said – “21st February” be proclaimed International Mother Language Day throughout the world to commemorate the martyrs who sacrificed their lives on this very day in 1952. Since then 21 February is observed as International Mother Language Day around the world.

About :

  • The Undisputed Leader of the Bengali (Bangalee) Nation, the Greatest Bengali (Bangalee) of all time, the Great Dreamer of the Golden Bengal (Bangla), The Great Architect of Independent and Sovereign Bangladesh, Bangabandhu always dreamed an independent and sovereign state for the Bengali (Bangalee) people of the then East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). During General Ayub’s autocratic regime (1958-1969), the Awami League under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman emerged as the leading party in the struggle for achieving autonomy for East Pakistan. After the death Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman became the sole leader of the Awami League.
  • In the aftermath of the 17-days war of 1965 between India and Pakistan that exposed the utter helplessness of the Bengalis (Bangalees) in the absence of any noticeable military defense and security from the side of the Pakistan central Government. At a conference of oppositions parties in Lahore in February 1966, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared the historic sixpoint program of the Awami League. The program included: Federal Parliamentary System at the center including universal adult franchise; all power in the federating units or provinces except foreign relations and defense; separate currencies for East and West Pakistan; right of the federating units to levy taxes and duties; right to negotiate trade and commerce with foreign countries by the federating units; and finally, militia or paramilitary forces for the provinces for their own defenses.
  • The six-point program marked a change in politics. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had been able to get his Six-Point Program ratified through the Awami League council meeting held in Eden Hotel, Dhaka on 18-19 March 1966. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was elected as president of the Party, while Tajuddin Ahmad was elected as General Secretary. The six-point program instantly stirred the younger section of the population of the country. The reaction of the Ayub Government was very sharp. Terming it ‘secessionist’ president Ayub threatened to suppress the demand with the ‘language of weapon’.
  • After the declaration of the Six-Point demand the speed of the freedom movement of the Bengalis (Bangalees) intensified and spread all over the then East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). The Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared the Historic Six-Point Movement in 1966 to liberate the Bengali (Bangalee) Nation from Pakistani rule, exploitation and deprivation. The Six-Point demand was the charter of emancipation and independence of the Bengalis (Bangalees).
  • The Historic Six-Point Movement of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman left behind an eternal legacy of perpetual inspiration of emancipation and independence which still inspires the Bengali (Bangalee) Nation. The legacy of the Historic Six-Point Movement of Bangabandhu will live on forever.
