About : 

• After a tedious seven-week voyage aboard the “La Victoire,“ young Marquis de Lafayette came ashore on the coast of South Carolina on June 13, 1777. Although not sponsored by his government, his arrival in America to fight for American independence was a prelude to the vital French support which would follow. Within the next three months, he journeyed to Philadelphia, was commissioned a major general in the Continental Army and fought with distinction at the Battle of Brandywine.
